Post menopause and depression
Hi
Just wondering those who have went through breast cancer treatment and you're in menopause if you've had to take antidepressants for the rest of your life.
I have been on 1 for a year Zoloft 50mg. It has been working I've also had a lot of trauma and friends and family passing too young in the last year now I just wondered if anyone actually comes off this medication at some point. I don't feel like it's working as well as it was but then again I just lost my brother unexpectedly and I do not want to increase it.

You have had a lot of trauma. Consider giving yourself grace to heal in this time period. What you need now medically due to life stresses may not be necessary as time goes on.
One other thing that I would suggest, during times of stress I am prone to drops of T3, the thyroid hormone which is called the feel good hormone. You may check your levels easily with a serum test of T3.
T3 actually was the drug of choice for depression for decades. If you are low on T3 then you will react quickly to supplementation and may at least use less depression medication. For me, I did not need any other drug than the T3 supplementation.
I remember the doctor who checked my T3; he came in with the results of the test and tossed the results on the desk and said "there is why you are depressed; your body has gone into a state of physical depress". Then he complained about doctors giving patients depression medication without checking their t3 levels (I had a prescription from a doctor which I had not filled for depression meds). I reacted quickly and even had to lower my T3 meds because I was so happy, ha. I called the doctor explained the stresses of my life and said doctor I just spent the morning thinking, "Happy, happy, happy I am so happy". "I don't think it is normal to be that happy in the midst of the "hell" which I am in right now....so maybe we need to reck and maybe lower the T3." And yes the T3s were too high, but later with a changed prescription and now at a good normal but higher level of T3 I was able to process and place my problems in context to react postively. I was able to deal with the stress in my life. We rechecked the T3/T4 regularly and adjusted as needed. We have done this for decades.
