Post kidney transplant
Has anyone had a kidney transplant at mayo? Was it a good experience. I've heard it is the best place to go. How long did it take for you to get in to see them.

I had one in March of 2015! Greatest place you could possibly go! Let me know if you have any questions.
I was a donor at Mayo (Rochester) last month. I don't know much about the recipient's side except that it was successful and she's doing very well. She was in the hospital for 3 nights and stayed in Rochester for appointments for 2 weeks afterwards.
I received amazing care at every step of the process from the lab techs to the surgeon.
@lori120ann, I want to welcome you to Mayo Connect. I received my liver/kidney transplant at Mayo Rochester in 2009. My experience at Mayo was amazing. That is one of the reasons that I have chosen to be a volunteer mentor with Mayo Clinic. Every year my husband and I travel 800 miles each way so I can have my annual evaluation there.

Are you anticipating the need for a transplant?

@tmiller999, I want to extend my hand for a virtual handshake (with no germs) and welcome you to Mayo Connect. I feel that it is an honor to welcome you because you are a transplant recipient. I am a liver/kidney recipient, and I transplanted in 2009 at Mayo Rochester. I hope that you are doing well. I see that you will be celebrating your transplant anniversary soon. Will you do something special?

@mauraacro, As a recipient, I want you to know that I welcome the information that you share as a donor! I am amazed at how we, recipient and donor, are so much alike in our feelings and the inspiration and awe of the miracle of life that we have been blessed to experience.
Thank you for sharing your experience. Thank you for sharing your kidney. Thank you. Because by your actions, you are providing HOPE to many patients.

@lori120ann, This was just posted by @kequick in our New Transplant Blog Discussion Group. It is a story recognizing the 20th anniversary of the transplant center in Florida. It highlights the amazing accomplishments over the past 20 years. I think that if you look at it, you will begin to understand why we are so excited about Mayo Clinic. Jacksonville is one of 3 Mayo Clinic Locations.

What are some questions that you would like to ask?

@lori120ann my husband is currently on the liver transplant list with Mayo in Rochester. We have been treated with nothing but kindness and respect by everyone when we have been there for appointments. It only took 18 days from when I requested his appointment to when it was scheduled. I was really surprised that he got in that quickly and by the fact that I could just go online and ask for an appointment!
Best of luck,
JoDee
Oh that's good. I'm glad I live close enough to be able to go there. I was referred over 6 weeks ago but they have not called me yet to set up an appointment. Did it take a long time for you to get in there? Insurance approvals and tests and so forth.
Wow you are an amazing person. God bless you for giving her a kidney.
Yes I have been referred to them. I live very close to the one in Scottsdale AZ. what a blessing. So I won't have to travel like you did. I'm just waiting now to get in.
