Post focal resection effects

Because of the intense brain surgery in 1992, I developed a chemical imbalance that led to a serious depression. I ended up having 3 suicide attempts within 2 months. They placed me in the psych ward to help me try different anti-depressants for 4 weeks. During the 3rd week they tried me on Lithium. I snapped out of my depression the next morning. They made the assumption I was suffering from bipolar illness. They kept me on the Lithium for another week and said if I still felt this good in a week's time, they would release me... On condition that I see a psychiatrist on a weekly basis after that. My psychiatrist was a gem. She encouraged me to love & forgive myself for the past. I learned to like myself and the world around me as well. I saw her for years and my outlook on life got better & better. She even took me off the Lithium and introduced Valproic Acid, which turned out to be my happy pills. I still take them to this day. They help raise my spirits... They are so much more than mood stabilizers. When I was on Lithium, I didn't have any emotions. My life was just Blah! No highs no lows hardly any emotions at all. To this day I love the life I have. Because of the brain surgery I had, I suffer from memory loss and Home Care comes 4X a day to ensure I take all my blessed medication, every 4 hours. God is pouring all kinds of blessings on me. I can't stop counting the ways. Amen!
