Post Evenity DEXA numbers

Posted by susanfalcon52 @susanfalcon52, Jun 7 5:48am

So, I have my results after 12 months on Evenity.
Lumbar spine went from-2.5 to -1.8.
Left hip went from-2.0 to -1.8.
For the right hip and right femoral neck,
there are no scores, presumably because they are now titanium.

Great numbers
Can I ask what your next step is?

I have an appointment with my doctor on monday to discuss that decision. Possibly Fosamax. Reclast side effects scare me a bit. I'd love to go back on Forteo but we'll see.

I had my 12th Evenity injections in early June. My osteoporosis dr. ordered a DEXA scan, which I had June 17. My appt. with her is July 11 to see her recommendation for next step. I checked my claims on Medicare and it was covered.

Has anyone had all 12 Evenity injections, taken a break (but on another med), then had one more year of Evenity?

I seem to remember reading that this is possible, but can't remember where I read it and what the med was for the year after the first 12 Evenity. Does anyone have info about this?

I had all twelve injections of Evenity with improvement in all areas on my DEXA scan. My rheumy put me on Reclast a couple of weeks after my last shot. I think it’s a choice your doctor makes with you on what’s best for you with regard to continuing treatment. I’ll be on recast for another 2 years. After that maybe there will be something even better out there. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. How did you do with Reclast? So the plan for you is a total of 3 annual Reclast infusions, then hopefully another med will be available, right?

I do fine on Reclast, no side effects. I had done 2 years of Reclast before Evenity so I can only have 2 or 3 years more. I understand that you can only be on it for a man of 5 years. Yes, I’m hoping there will be something new on the market to take after that.

Unfortunately, according to various videos, nothing new in the pipeline right now 🙁

We may have new ways to sequence or combine drugs though.

nwyatt,
That is still improvement- you’re going in the right direction!
I had 12 months of Evenity and then had Reclast a few weeks ago. I also had some improvement with Evenity.

How did your Reclast infusion go? Any side effects or smooth sailing?

Notes from my January DEXA state: “Follow-up DEXA recommended at one-year intervals due to OP diagnosis”. I asked my rheumatologist if I could avail myself of an annual (or at least following Evenity) DEXA as recommended by the radiologist. He said my insurance only pays for one scan every two years - and they are careful to make that at least “one year and one day”. He also said that bone grows so slowly that one year would not be a good barometer of growth/decline.

I did some “scratch the surface” research to find out if an annual scan was something that I wanted to do and what the cost would be without insurance - no one could give me a good answer. I should probably follow up with this as I am curious about whether or not my scores have improved from Evenity dose #5 - #12. OP treatment - working on a mystery without any clues!

Good Health and a Happy Fourth of July, all!

I just started Evenity July 2. After 3 days I started having dizziness, nausea and unusual fast heartbeat 98-99. Not sure if this temporary or will continue for a long time. Please let me know about your experience. I been suffering from debilitating back pain every day for almost 4 months now and side effects from Evenity making my life more miserable.

Hi @sunny65,

I just finished Evenity on June 27 and had no side effects besides those associated with getting a flu shot - redness, swelling, slight pain . . .

I was on Tymlos for 8-1/2 months with pretty much the same symptoms (plus several others) that you describe for Evenity. Half life for Evenity is about 13 days, so the symptoms may settle down around that time. You should at least make it known to your doc that you’re having these issues. I kept a daily diary while on Tymlos so I could give my doc a good description of what was happening.

I am so sorry to hear of your back pain! I, too had debilitating pain while on Tymlos, so I am in your corner! Is your back pain from a fracture or have you not been diagnosed as to why your back hurts?

It can be sometimes difficult to determine how one will react to OP meds (my doc didn’t pay any attention to my debilitating pain) so it can be trial and error.

I hope this gives you some insight about these meds. Please keep me apprised of how things are going for you. I wish you the best and hope things turn around for you . . . and quickly!

Cheers!

@nwyatt I am supposed to begin Evenity ( unless I chicken out!) at the end of the month. After 12 months, it will be followed by Reclast. I have not taken any bone drugs since about 10+ yrs ago. I took Fosamax for about 1 week and felt so terrible that I stopped. Now my numbers are far worse, so I guess there is no more procrastination. Hoping that you have good success with your follow up treatment.

Reclast infusion was uneventful. I was tired the day after and achy.
