Posted by dr4bama @dr4bama, Jul 14, 2022

I am experiencing profuse sweating off during the day and nightly. Is this common post Covid?

Feb of 22, long haul covid set in
shortness of breath and extreme exhaustion lasted for 4 months, now I have extreme perspiration and extreme hot flashes. My other symptoms have gone away after seeing a holistic doctor who treated me for another virus--Epstein Barr. Now the Buccal Pads in my cheeks have herniated and I look like a chipmunk. It seems that liposuction is the only cure, and since the swelling is slowly moving up my face, I am seeking the right doctor.
Hoping all these issues will go away for everyone in time.

After 6 months, my symptoms have disappeared…no more sweats, no more extreme fatigue, no more chest tightness and pain, I still have shortness of breath, but also have asthma and have gotten very overweight. Now to start rehab and lose weight…exercise as much as possible.
I wish the best to all of you still suffering with these awful conditions…I had almost given up hope I would ever get better….hang in there, baby steps every day you can.

Thank you for your encouraging words! I feel that I may be getting better with a lot of supplements and cleaning up my diet, but I have had some days that are good, and then back to all the symptoms again for a week, so it is confusing. I'm not out of hope though. Thanks!

I had post Covid body temp disregulation for over a year. Without warning I would suddenly overheat, any time of the day. The night sweats were the worst. I would dread going to bed. They made menopausal hot flashes & night sweats seem like child’s play. I still have issues Bt nothing like it was…….

Your experience seems similar to mine. The frustration partially comes from having a good day followed by multiple days of the symptoms returning. I'm thinking it does make a difference with diet and a LOT of supplements, but it's necessary to be very consistent about it, and I sometimes fail in that area. My best wishes to you!

Hi @dr4bama - welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect.

Sweating does seem to be a pretty common side effect of COVID-19, unfortunately. I know it can get very uncomfortable throughout the day!
Others have discussed ongoing fevers with sweating as a side effect on this discussion post, you may find it helpful to read through:
- Fevers weeks after COVID: Is this common with long COVID? https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/fevers-weeks-after-covid/

Have you continued to have a fever at all in your recovery? Have any other symptoms continued?

I have had severe sweating, hyperhydrosis, for over 2 years after getting my first 2 covid shots. I am bascially sweating 24/7 and the doctors can do nothing about it. Any suggestions ???

My husband started oddly/unusually sweating during his first covid infection and then the sweating and other symptoms (painful cold sensations, brain fog, irritability, weepiness, weight loss) became personally and professionally debilitating after his second covid infection and vaccinations.
It’s been over 1.5 years now. He’s been seen by many specialists, had multiple tests and studies done, tried various medications and still no diagnosis.

Someone on here posted about the medication, Oxybutynin to help reduce sweating. This has been life changing for my husband! It doesn’t eliminate what we call “episodes” where he still feels many of the symptoms, but it has stopped the majority of the sweating. He’s taking 15mg extended release once daily and no longer changing clothes up to 4 times daily.

I highly recommend researching it and talking to your doctor to hopefully get some relief from the constant sweating.

Thanks very much for this info !

Good to know about Oxybutynin. I've been having bladder issues the last month and wonder if that's contributing to the sweating. I feel mine has been vascular or ANS (autonomic nervous system) related. I had the Stellate Ganglion Block done for ANS and CSS (Central Sensitization Syndrome) last Sept and many symptoms were reduced or stopped, but with covid 2nd infection in March '23 it has started up again. I'm on Nattokinase (natural fibrin/blood thinner enzyme), LDN, NAC, Guanfacine, collagen, magnesium, DE binder, and glutathione.
