Post CABG chest skin sensitivity
Had 2 x bypass 10/25/22. No complications. Only remaining issue is the skin on the left side of my chest is extremely sensitive. If I wear a shirt and it brushes that part of my chest: yowl! Pain level is 4-5. If I take the shirt off...........pain gone immediately. Anyone elseexperience this? Thanks

@jbhook I'm glad to hear you are recovering well - and quickly too.
One of the big surprises I had after an early surgery was skin sensitivity - the curmudgeon of a surgeon rudely told me to "quite whining" - I was a scared 24 yo. Now, years later, I have come to understand that it is usually nerves that are angry at having been cut or disturbed. Nerves are exceedingly slow to heal, and can cause pain or unpleasant sensations for many weeks or months. After wrist surgery several years ago, I got stockinette fabric (very soft, stretchy knit - they usually put it under casts) and wore it over the wound area for many months.
My friend experienced this after breast cancer radiation - for a number of weeks she was topless, but eventually she could tolerate very soft knit fabric as long as it stayed in place, and put looser clothing over it. Perhaps a larger version of stockinette, like for under body casts, or a very snug undershirt of rayon or cotton jersey would work for you? Or maybe you'll just need to be patient and wait for it to heal?

I’ve experienced something similar to what you feel but for a different reason. It’s proven that when the brain loses one of the senses, it compensates by turning up the others. At present, I’ve lost the sense of pain from mid thighs down including both feet. I’ve also lost the pain sense in the right arm and hand and most of the left hand. My eyesight has also taken a major hit, especially the left eye and now the right one. Things got so scary when
I drove, I sold my car.
Now with those two messed up, my brain ramped up the sensation of itching. Part of me get so itchy, I literally claw myself bloody because I cannot feel the pain of ripping my skin open. For whatever reason, it seems the nerve controlling sensitivity to your chest got damaged somehow or injured and just the slightest thing touching it causes pain to you. I’ve read where some people have sensitivity to just a sheet laying across their legs. If this is going on since your procedure, I would think the two things together caused the reaction. Hope things work out for you.

I am three weeks postop x3 CABG and I’m currently experiencing exactly the same thing. No real explanation from my surgeon aside from “sensitive skin apply lotion”. It’s quite painful. Tylenol is no help. Are you still suffering with it? If not, how long did it take for it to ease? If you have since found a cause or source of relief please share. Thanks
I am post 2 years x3 CABG and was at dermatology yesterday for this exact symptom. While it is a minor symptom in my health journey, it is an aggravation. I was told to use Sarnoff, they could inject steroid into the scar or a cosmetic laser procedure costing $1000. The explanation was nerves. Yesterday I had injections in my SI joints, which required laying on my stomach. My chest was hurting later. Should have insisted on pillow to lay on.
