I had more of a reaction to the shingles shots than I've ever had to ANY other vaccine. Everyone is different so I hope your second shot goes easy on you. That said, the reaction you may have is WAY better than having shingles.
Hi Bon,
Mainly just the soreness of my arm at the injection site. The “jab” hurt more too & I was told the needle is larger. It’s the second dose that may cause fever, fatigue or more prolonged discomfort. Needless to say, I believe all these vaccines are necessary for us to stay as healthy as possible! Take care, Linda
Do most people get the flu shot for seniors (the extra strong one?) without much side effects? Last year I got the flu shot but not the strong one. My arm did not even react which made me wonder if it took effect.
My husband and I have been getting the stronger dose for a number of years now. The worst side effect was, on occasion, some minor soreness in our arm. Mostly, we had no problems at all. We’ve had our pneumonia shot as well as the new RSV and will take our next Covid vac. soon. Our doctors have encouraged us to get vaccinated. We believe in them.

Last year I got Flublok instead of Fluzone because of the egg in Fluzone. I am not technically allergic to eggs but a lab test showed intestinal allergy to them and I cannot eat them. I do not know if any of that would translate to the stronger vaccine with egg component.
I have proceeded with getting the Prevnar-20 shot... some soreness on the arm, weak arms, legs, general achiness headache... so nothing much - the expected for me. Thankful for the protection!
The flu shots are not here yet- always too late! They usually arrive in the middle of October, by which time, I'm already sick! So I'm on the List, to be one of the first folk to get 'shot' as soon as available!
Thanks to all for your input.
Onward to a healthy winter !

NJH, Mayo and every pulmonologist I know recommends all applicable vaccines for MAC and Bronchiectasis patients, subject to suitability for their individual health profile.
As my primary doc once pointed out to me "A little cold gives you bronchitis, and you end up sick. Do you really want to risk getting the flu or pneumonia?"
So, every year, I get my recommended injections, knowing I am going to feel poorly for a few days because my immune system overreacts, but I have avoided getting the respiratory flu for over 10 years, and I haven't had pneumonia since I got treated for MAC and started getting the vaccine as recommended, in spite of being out and about in the community.
I take Stelara an immune suppressant. I have 3 autoimmune diseases MAS. I do the injections for Crohns. How long do you wait to get vaccines if you do any biologic injections?
I take Humira for Crohn's. What is your reason for thinking of waiting? My understanding is that those of us who are especially vulnerable should get vaccines early in the season. I always was able to get the first covid vaccines early because of the Humira. I got the over-60 flu vaccine today! No side effects as of yet. I got the new Pfizer covid vaccine 3 weeks ago and for the first time had no side effects. A friend had same experience. Wondering if this new one is somehow less bothersome for most people. I got the pneumovax & RSV last year. You don't have to get those every year.
Dr Swenson (Emory U Hosp), recommended get the RSV vaccine in September and the Flu vaccine late Sept or October.
Thank you, I agree!

If you had all three, are taking MAC antibiotics and your immunoglobulins are low or you have good immunity
