PN and Hot, Hot Weather––Any Change in Your Symptoms?

Posted by Ray Kemble @ray666, Jul 28 5:13pm

Do any of you find that your PN symptoms are affected by hot weather? A local friend who has PN asked me that question. Until then, frankly, I had'nt made a connection between my poor PN balance and the high temps we've been experiencing lately. I mentioned my friend's question to my partner and she reminded me that recently I've been saying that my balance has been unusually wonky these past few weeks. I understand hot weather can lower blood pressure, and low blood pressure can result in dizziness, Might there be a connection? Does anyone have a thought on this? I'd welcome knowing.

My neuropathy, as well as my osteoarthritis are easier to deal with when the weather is warmer here in the PNW, which doesn't last very long. Right now we're having a mild summer so far, and my pain levels are definitely lower than they are in December.
The "dark" half of the year can really suck some times, 6 months of clouds, rain, fog, and occasionally snow at sea level.

I know exactly how you feel also from the PNW. Winter is terrible but living for summer is not fun.

I am living in the U.K. The heat recently in July reached maybe 28c which is exceptional for North West U.K. I noticed the burning in my feet and legs horrific and have not slept well since then, even though now about 20c this week. Pills don't work for me. Thinking of acupuncture. Has anyone tried this? Also the only painkiller to work without giving me brainfog was codeine but this isn't working much at present.
Any suggestions to ease my pain? Also had Capsiacin treatment last month, but not effective at present. Thanks for any help/ideas. babsimpson

Yes the heat and humidity make feet feel like I’m wearing a thick pair of socks, I don’t have pain, just numbness but the heat must cause swelling of some kind inside, it subsides when the weather cools down.

I agree but I cannot be so medicated that I am a vegetable so I just go on.

Re PN, I'm 93 yrs old, and I've it since 1987!!! No luck in treatment. In last 4-5 years, it has become worse....I canot stand or walk....so I live in a wheelchair in a good skilled nursing facility. I take lots of physical therapy and personal training, Meds (like gabapentin = no help), I CANNOT BALANCE. I wish you more luck. Dr. Beck
