Plans for rehab after valve surgery- what preparations should I make?

Why not call the rehab director or supervisor to check for what you need? My friend who had a stroke went to rehab where she had some issues with meds--they were using "their" version of her meds, vs. her prescriptions. You might want to check on that. Good luck and get home soon!

IMO, the best prep you could do is research the rehab facilities in your insurance network and put together a short list of those that you would want to be discharged to. There is a wide range in quality of care out there. Good luck.

Hi, I totally agree with the posts about researching the rehab facilities in your insurance network and also checking with the rehab director about medications. It’s true that there is a wide range in quality of care. That was my experience. In 2018, I fell in my hose on the tile floor and broke my hip. I was hospitalized for four days after they did a hip replacement. While at the hospital in SWFL, I was given a list of skilled nursing facilities to do my rehab and physical rehabilitation. Believe me, I didn’t know one facility from the next, so I picked one. Unfortunately it wasn’t that good and I couldn’t get a private room. Luckily, I was able to change facilities where I could get a private room. The physical therapy at this facility was excellent, food was fair. The aides except for a few weren’t so good. I couldn’t walk without a walker at first and needed help walking to the bathroom, Sometimes at night, it took awhile before you rang the buzzer for an aide to come to your room to help. My advice is to pick your facility very carefully. Some are fair, others are very good! As I mentioned the physical therapists at my second facility were top notch! But the aides who helped me every day were only just fair. I was in rehab for a month, so my remarks come from personal experience.

Hi, I’m sure that the facility you go to will have walkers, canes, etc. When I was ready to be discharged Medicare paid for a personal walker and cane. Medicare also paid for physical therapy three times over week at my home. I think the doctor or rehab facility has to recommend the at home PT. Medicare also pays for someone to come and to help you take a shower, etc. I would check with your doctor and insurance about physical therapy at home. It really helped me after I was discharged from the rehab facility. Hope my info helps in some way. Best of luck!
