This is John. Joined yesterday. Idiopathic PN for 20 years. I have used an ortho shoe with a brace insert due to drop foot. Found another shoe that doesn't require brace. Always pain in feet and hands- take tramadol.
Experience fatigue throughout the day. Don't know if PN is the cause. Have high blood pressure and diabetes also.
@jduff1973comcastnet John - What kind of show do you wear that does not involve a brace and helps with the drop foot? I'd be interested in knowing who makes it. Thanks. Ed

I've had 2 liver transplants over the past 25 years. I have been taking an immune surpressant, Prograf/Tacrolimus. After my 2nd transplant in 2017, I started having pain and numbness in my feet. A Neurologist in 2018 diagnosed it as SFN and I started taking Lyrica/Pregabalin for the pain. However, most of my pain is at night with burning or freezing feelings in addition to numbness. Affects how well I sleep a lot.
Really sorry that your sleep is affected so much. One can put up with a lot if they can get good sleep.
I also take Pregabalin (100 mg. three times daily) but it is coupled with 50 mg. Tramadol, also three times a day. The combination of the two does the trick for me. I've been taking them for about four years. It's worth looking into. That said, I'm sure you have to be really careful about the medications that you can tolerate with your transplants. Prayers that you find something that helps. ~ Barb
I started with an SSRI to cope with the anxiety of having this progressive, enigmatic condition and it really helped my mindset, and somehow settled my nerves, and my symptoms slightly improved, might be worth a try.
I'm 78 and have had peripheral neuropathy in my lower extremities for over 25 years. It's getting worse as noted in my latest EMGs. However, it's now in my upper extremities along with vestibulopathy (balance issues).
As a disabled Navy veteran, the VA says I have polyneuropathy as a result of toxic exposure (Agent Orange) from my military service in Vietnam.
I'm currently seeing a pain management doctor outside of VA. I am doing pt and taking a regimen of 1800mg of Gabapentin (initially prescribed for migraines) and 500 mg of Tyenol, as needed. I started out with Tramadol, but stopped that due to side effects of more headaches. The pt is helping with my balance, but not the chronic pain. I stay as active as I can can which helps diminish my feet and leg pain.
Open for suggestions, but right now just dealing with it.

It is so stressful. Have had it in my feet and legs for 3 yrs now. My doc offered me an antidepressant. I refused as i don't see the connection.
Anyone have info on lumbar spine nerves and neuropathy? Success with treatment etc?
Anyone try functional medicine treatments for their neuropathy?

In your second post you mentioned functional medicine. Here's a discussion on the topic that may be helpful:

Have you been diagnosed with neuropathy?

What is an SSRI? I read that a Chiro can help. I had a great one for 2 yrs with my back which she helped a lot so i am going to give that a try.
