Anyone have pelvic floor disorder and pelvic floor physcal therapy?

Posted by jojo13 @jojo13, Sep 13, 2021

Hello. I am hoping for some help. I have had pain for years from Endometriosis. After 4 laparoscopies and an ovarin torsion surgery I finally flew out to GA to have a hysterectomy from a specialist. I also had my tubes out, uterus and one ovary removed- I am only 41 so we kept one to prevent menopause. It has been a few months since my procedure (March) and I am having pain again. I was told to do pelvic floor therapy to help. I did go once but I did not feel very comfortable with the doctor or the location so I didn't go back. Unfortunately there is little to no one that does this near me. I am just wondering if anyone has had this therapy and if it helps or not. I did buy the wand to try and use at home but I am honestly not sure what I am doing! I just know I am frustrated to be in pain again. I appreciate any guidance. Thank you!

So sorry that you are having these issues…had complete hysterectomy at 44. Endo and tumors every where. Fortunately, no cancer. 71 now. Shortly after very long, tough surgery, Med world came out with info that good chance of getting breast cancer if you took hormones. My doc would no longer prescribe.
So, only help was sleeping pills, as I could not fall asleep after I had no more hormones.
Fast forward a bit, always had urinary tract issues that a new doc treated with vaginal pills.
Worked good for 15 years, then problems started again.
Wonderful new urologist worked with compounding pharmacy to come up with internal Med mixed in a non irritating base.
As to your wand, this urologist recommended a woman pelvic therapist that was pretty far away, but she knew her stuff. This was about 5 years ago.
I had to wait months to get in to see her, and I was so uncomfortable and desperate, that I found a woman online. Yes, online until I could get in to see this therapist. Was money well spent, and I still have the personal teaching videos she sent. Nothing weird, just pelvic pt, exercise type. We would have like two hour zoom sessions where we would work on the pt part and she would make sure I was doing the exercises correctly.
Once I was able to see the other pelvic therapist, there was internal work, and it is weird to start, seriously.
She explained everything step by step, so professional.
Ultimately she told me where to order the wand, and explained how to use it. It was basically the same things she did with me, but I did them at home by myself.
Because she had physically done the interior work, I knew exactly where to use it, and what feeling you would want to reproduce to obtain some relief.
This is a lot of stuff…I did/do not have collapsing organs, just tight feeling and pain.
I think the brand of wand I bought provides you with a link that will provide some information and instructions. Intimate Rose?
If you want to pm me, I will go into a little more detail about this.
I wish you every comfort and relief-see if there is another therapist, maybe drive every other week if you can’t do it weekly. It might help you learn to take care of the pain yourself!

CH47,
Thank you for your info. I did see a pelvic floor specialist and it was helpful. I’m going to go back for a refresher. I’m in a city, so there are plenty of them around.

I believe so…I have seen three, plus the online woman.
Hard to believe, but I think the online girl who taught the correct stretching ( she sent me videos after each session of her doing the exercises correctly!) and the first pelvic person I saw, that did internal work and that taught me about how to use the wand, etc. were the best. Great combo. Unfortunately, she moved away, but I learned enough to go back to it when I need it.
I’ve seen two other pelvic therapists since, and not as impressive as the first one. If you feel that you are seeing someone and they don’t feel somewhat helpful after 5-6 sessions, maybe try someone else. The first in-person Pt did not show me or explain about dilation and using the wand until she was sure I understood the whole thing., and what to “feel for”. ( Ps, if you didn’t know, those are two different things. I needed both.) She told me what to buy, told me how to use them, but you do it at home, not the office. She only used her hands in the office.

Good luck!!!

I struggled with prolapsing organs for some time. My gynecologist would say at every annual check up, ‘If you don’t stop lifting and pulling your bladder and rectum can prolapse completely.’ Never mention Pelvic Floor Therapy. Thankfully I had a friend who had gone through PT and was doing well. I asked my Primary Care doc if she would order PT for me. A couple sessions to learn the correct exercises and then doing them on my own. Amazing, if you are experiences pelvic floor weakness Ireccomend you try physical therapy.

Is pelvic floor therapy also useful with rectal prolapse?

I'm not a physician but I would think that both PT and surgery should be employed. PT certainly can't hurt to gain some control but a prolapse should really be fixed. Good luck with your journey.

Yes!

I had pelvic floor therapy but the only useful thing for me was biofeedback and relaxing my pelvic floor. I have pelvic floor dysfunction and was trying to divert a colectemy.
