Pelvic congestion syndrome
I’m having a pelvic venous embolization due to faulty veins in the pelvis. I have many varicosities and will also have my perineal region worked on along with my left leg. It is a 3 hour procedure. Anyone have similar procedure and if so please share your recovery without frightening me. I’m already anxious about an outpatient surgery. Thanks so much

1 ReactionI have never heard of Pelvic Congestion Syndrome, but I am interested to know what the symptoms are. And it makes sense that you are nervous about getting a pelvic venous embolization. I don't know what it is but am going to look it up. How necessary is it to get it? I am sorry that I am not bringing anything to the table here, but the post caught my eye when I read hysterectomy and prolapse. My mother is going through so much right because her uterus has fallen onto her bladder and the bladder isn't where it should be because of it and it is causing all kinds of problems. They are slow in helping her. She thinks it is because of her age. She is 75. I don't understand it since she gets urinary infections one after another and antibiotics are no longer working for her. She is always telling me I will likely go through the same stuff because her mother did too. Except with her mother, they just did a hysterectomy. With my mom they just want to pin her bladder up. Although, my mom wants a hysterectomy. Anyway, I am going to go look at what your condition is. Sorry, I am of no help. But hang in there. Maybe someone else here will know something about it.
I'm having one in two weeks, left ovarian vein. Intense pain sitting. What symptons were you getting and did they resolve?
Just had a CT scan w/ contrast which shows Pelvic Congestion Syndrome. Had to look it up. My issue is a clenching in lower left pelvis off & on each day. Have been referred to an OB GYN (?). Just wondering if that was the path anyone here took to get proper treatment.
I just had an ultrasound from right pelvic pain, feeling heaviness ( as if I have a weight there), and warn at times showing an external bulging vein in the middle. The ultrasounds results showed left ovary dilated veins up to 8mm. which suggests pelvic congestion syndrome.
I had an endovaginal ultrasound that showed these results.
The strange thing is that the pain has always been on the right side (where I had a hernia repair 17 yrs. ago) and not on the left. I found information that the pain from the left dilated ovary vein can radiate to the right side of the pelvis, low back and even the thigh. I was hoping to get a doppler ultrasound next, but my new GP just sent me home to get naproxen when it hurts😳 8mm. dilation suggests vein embolization since clots can be formed😪
Should I go back to my GP to request the doppler ultrasound? The pain is sudden, not daily but close enough to each other that it is affecting my every day activities. I have read that it improves when laying down, but last night when I woke up, it was hurting while laying down. Could this be muscular or a tendon or something from the hernia repair? The ultrasound didn’t show anything related or affected from the hernia repair. Thank you.
@pur1rucha I assume you are in the US? Do you have a gyn or uro-gyn you can be referred to for this? Seems out of the realm of GP competency--naprosyn ONLY? that is quite dismissive of your pain and disruption of daily life. But many drs dismiss women's pain so there's that.
I'm older and finally (after > 5 yrs of problems, interference with daily life) finally got an answer on hernias (plural) but had to be my own best advocate. At least my primary care, an NP (female) is willing to listen and take me at my word on how this is impacting my life.

1 Reaction@terry1976 thank you so much, I am in Canada but thank you for your advice. We do also have to advocate for our own selves here! I do have an appointment this PM with an NP ( or Functional medicine/Integrative) doctor and will ask him for his advice and recommendations. My GP is a new doctor and I’m really hoping that she advocates for me in all things related to my health. I had to leave my former GP because he is not available for in person appointments anymore, only via phone and I needed a complete physical test done soon.
Thankfully I found this lady GP as it us very hard to find doctors that take new patients.
Do you know if dilation of the vein up to 8mm. requires a surgery to correct it? I might go back to my new GP or ask my NP/F/I doc to order that doppler ultrasound for me or refer me to a GYN specialist🙏🏽
Thank you again!💖
@aggie104360 May I ask you, was your pain on the left side as your ovarian vein? May I ask you what was the dilated measurement of your vein? My pelvic ultrasound and EV left ovary vein was up to 8mm. which I researched to be a considerable amount to guarrant a doppler ultrasound to check the direction of the blood flow. The pain surprised me overnight last night when I woke up at 2am., not from the pain but I was feeling sore when I moved and couldn’t lay on the right side ( area where it mainly has hurt) and my ultrasound and EV results say “ left ovary dilated veins up to 8mm.” I appreciate your feedback and I have already made another appointment with my GP to request a doppler ultrasound and a referral to a Gynaecologist, as suggested here💖 thank you in advance.
@pur1rucha Mine was 10mm. Started refluxing again not long after embolization. Now have to have another venegram to check for May Turner. That should have been checked during 1st venegram/ embolization. My main symtins are pain sitting and heaviness like a bowling ball in pelvis when standing
@aggie104360 Thank you for sharing. Was your venegram=EV doppler ultrasound? I am new on this. Is your pain localized on the left side (where the left ovary dilated veins are?) or does it ever radiate to the right side? I ask you this, due to my pain localized mainly on the right side, which could mean a totally different issue (?) not sure? 🙁 I made an appointment with my GP for early next week to ask her for the doppler ultrasound, should that be Endo vaginal doppler ultrasound? I am in Canada and I hope the GP can request it or refer me to a Gynecologist specialist. Thank you.
