parkinson's and up and down blood pressure

lilyann here,

my husband has been diagnosed with PD. his blood pressure is up and down and in the morning especially when its quite low. anyone else out there with something similar?

The orthostatic hypotension in the AM can be one of the earliest signs before diagnosis. Check his meds to see if anything else might be part of the cause.
Ask your neurologist or primary for instructions and if he should increase salt consumption and hydration. There are meds to increase BP if needed.

@seniormed I agree. Stress made my blood pressure go all over the place, but there is no big concern for me at least. Also cause by seeing a doctor or "white coat symdrome."

BP fluctuations like you describe are not uncommon in Parkinson's patients with a component of autonomic nervous system failure. The autonomic nervous system helps control heart rate, blood vessel constriction and dilation and strength of your heart beat amongst MANY other things. When is fails - BP is harder to maintain when standing or when in a hot humid environment. I have experienced this for several years and it is quite limiting and dangerous - with an increased risk of falling (fainting) when the pressure is low. I stay hydrated, change positions slowly, minimize my time in hot, humid environments and take Midodrine 2 - 3 x daily to maintain my pressure. Be careful and good luck.
