Pain in the butt - Can't sit down

Posted by ecalderman @ecalderman, Nov 21, 2012

I have had very intense pain at my sitz bones for over 7 months and am unable to sit down. when I sit, it feels like I am sitting on two hot pokers or rocks and it is really unbearable. So, I have been standing for seven months. I've been to a couple of spine and pain management doctors, an orthopedist, a chiropractor, a neurologist, an acupuncturist, and a massage therapist. The original diagnosis was ischial bursitis but that ha not appeared on any images. I don't have any issues with any of my lumbar disks. I'm in constant pain even when standing or lying down though those activities do not hurt as much as sitting. Has anyone heard of anything like this before?

@amomynous 30 years of SI joint pain relieved by chiro who untwists my sacrum. Takes 2-3 minutes! Sent to her by my surgeon. That's about once a month and as an auxiliary to SCS. Almost zero pain even early in the a.m.

@scruffy1 any suggestions for what I should ask a chiropractor for? I have tried nearly everything but not a chiropractor yet…. I have been a little reticent. But desperate now for my sitting pain.

It must have been a long time ago that I posted this. My back surgeon referred me to this chiropractor. I told her where my pain was and all the MDs that I've been to. She had me lie on her "table" face down and she could see that as I lay there one leg look shorter than the other. She knew exactly what to do to fix that. That had to be 12 to 15 years ago. I was there Tuesday of this week and she still does the same thing and she still takes me out of pain when I get out of alignment. That's the best I can tell you.

I have diagnosed pudendal neuralgia and it takes weeks to months to be referred to next doctor. I’ve done nerve blocks and am on Duloxetine. Takes edge off. Sitting for longer periods is difficult. I would like a Vicodin a day but those days are long gone. Gummies help a little if you buy ones with a good amount of CBD.

I have had this monster and sat on a donut for 14 years. The only thing that worked was an anti-seizure medicine, Topamax that I was taking off-label for a daily persistent headache. I took it for 2 weeks and my butt was relieved. It did not help my headache which I still have 6-1/2 years later. My pelvic therapist mentioned a year later that she had heard of this. Worth a try. Good luck!

@ecalderman I know exactly what you are talking about... except that it's been ten years for me. I fell skiing and really did a job on my lower back and buttocks. After a year I went for the usual injections nerve blocks, etc. Little help, MRI was not very helpful since it is likely nerve related. A year later I had spinal fusion of L5-S1. No help for pain. A year after that I had a spinal cord stimulator implanted. That gave me my life back (along with some meds). I could cycle again. hike, work around the house, etc. Three years later the device just stopped working. I could go on but I am just saying that you may face a steep climb. But, don't give up! You have to become your own best advocate. Try all non invasive stuff before looking into anything surgical. Especially try to avoid spinal fusion if at all possible. I wish you well on your journey.

PS I, also, have been sitting on an orthopedic cushion for ten years. I have two. One on my chair in the house and one for the car.
