Pain and rehabilitation clinic

Posted by mommapk @mommapk, 2 days ago

Hi everyone. I’m new to all of this. My daughter started having mild joint pain a year ago that we blew off as growing pains. It got worse as time went on and by early Oct she was using a cane to walk and currently uses a wheelchair for most outings. She is constantly fatigued- she does anything significant (goes out to eat, a quick shopping trip, etc) it can wipe her out for a day or two…. She missed more than half the school year and has constantly missed out on things with her friends because she just can’t handle it.
Great news, we got into the pain and rehabilitation clinic and go in a week. Has anyone been to this program? Any tips we should know? Any thing to share to help reduce anxiety?
Thanks!

Welcome, @mommapk. Great to hear that your daughter has been accepted into Mayo's Pain Rehabilitation Clinic. You might appreciate this post in the PRC blog as well as the comments from members like @rwinney.

May I ask which Mayo Clinic location will your daughter attend the program? Will you be joining her?

@colleenyoung
Since she is a minor we will be at the Rochester location. The program requires one parent to attend and yes, I will be that parent. I’m lucky that I’m a teacher and we happened to get everything scheduled over summer, so I don’t miss any work. Sadly my hubby has to stay behind for his work.
I appreciate the links but we already read through those. I was looking more to connect with a parent who has taken their child through this, or a teen who is comfortable sharing their experience.
