Prostate Artery Embolization for BPH. Anyone have it done?

Posted by dmp08 @dmp08, Apr 16, 2023

PAE can be done through wrist or femoral artiry. Usually catheter is not needed. Catheter is for as a marker by some radialogists. I am wondering if it can be done without any sedation? Thanks.

Glad to track with another traveling same journey.

Why did you pick PAE, if you don’t mind my asking?

Very sick of dutasteride. I am a bit more complex, as I had Tulsa Pro several years ago to take out a spot of PCa out, but it didn't really stop my BPH, and PAE looked good plus a real pro interventional radiologist where I live basically made it an easy choice I guess.

I’ve got a low grade prostate cancer - Gleason score 6. Urologist said it’s not doing much, and my barking about side effects of finasteride and tamsulosin pointed us in the PAE direction

Good news av! If I remember correctly I was still getting up a number of times but once I turned the corner with pain it was off to the races!

Day 22 and like you said Bill, once the pain left, everything else is getting better pretty fast. Up once last night and stream increasing. Less LUTS overall and getting better quick the last couple of days!

That’s encouraging to hear! Me - Day 2 - so lots of getting up in the night last night. Meds now being taken post procedure are helping it all feel better though!

Great news AV. You’re on your way to a new (old) you! You will be very happy.

Ohioman, stay on those meds especially the one for pain. I skipped a dose thinking it wasn’t really helping, boy was that a mistake.

Good luck brothers!

Did you all get methylprednisolone (steroid), also called medrol dose pack? I am having no problems at all, but steroids solve a lot of problems sometimes but one can't take them long. Mine runs out in a few more days, hopefully things stay fine.

Thanks for guidance. These meds are making a big difference. (Though the one turns one’s urine the yellow-orange color of a Pez Egg Dye tablet!)

Me, too. 6-day supply. Took 5 today, after taking 6 yesterday. Tapers off by the day.

Any comments on how long it takes femoral artery incision to heal to return to exercise and no restrictions? My doctor gave me a 7-day estimate.

I'm down to two today on the medrol, and one tomorrow, peed 3x last night which is most time since procedure. But improving on pain which was just occasional anyway. The phenazopyridine is what turns pee colors, it is for any bladder problems, was helpful for a few days..
