packmaker issues 4 months out

Posted by astrocarol @astrocarol, May 15 2:14pm

I had a pacemaker put in the 11th of January 2024. I almost always sleep on my left side (where the pacemaker is) and have been experiencing not pain, and not even significant discomfort, but some slight discomfort in left breast, left arm and back shoulder blade. Does this need further investigation. I have a friend who had a pacemaker put in a few years ago and she said it took her quite a while to get adjusted to hers. Thanks for any advice. Carol

@astrocarol
I had my ICD/Pacemaker placed under my chest muscle. This was done by my EP because of limited skin tissues and me being so active.

My pacemaker can move with certain arm movements and had learn to avoid them. I assume your pacemaker is under your skin not your chest muscle. I would suggest raising up your head on pillows or what I do with Temperpedic bed I rasie the top of bed. This seems to take pressure of laying on my side and impact of pacemaker.

Just know it takes about a year for your body to get used to having an implanted device. So know that it will get better as your body gets used to having the device in you. Also over time the body encapsulates the devices to protect you and that makes it less irritable to your surroundings tissues and muscles. I had a great EP explain all this to me.
