Pacemaker recipients: Looking for support from others

Posted by balubeje @balubeje, May 25, 2016

I am coming on a year post op having a pacemaker placement for bradycardia. I would be interested in a support group with the same concerns. I think a support network would be so beneficial.

Ms, Nancy-in my opinion-you should check with your health care provider about the shingles vaccine. As this is your second rodeo and much worse than the first you definitely don't need another trip down that path. I am not sure if there might be health concerns that would prevent you from receiving the vaccine. I was told to wait 6 months post shingles but I waited a year. I was taking four different prescribed items and one was found not to be effective for me so I was changed to a different one and within 24 hours there was a huge improvement. I was home from work for a week with little to no activity. I've never known clothes to be painful except for a sunburn or if I'm trying to cram more into them than permitted. Once I could tolerate clothes I went back to work. I know of a pathologist who suffered for months as far out as 9 of them and well the rest isn't important. Food for thought.

I will check with the primary doc in November. That is a great idea, I've already been told I can't have a flu shot for a month. I just know I'm really tired. I have a lady friend who came over this morning who stayed with me while I showered. She took the clothes out of er and folded & put two loads out the dryer. She even put them away. Of course this was planned and I even had her check made out. This helps both of us as we both have kneads. Thanks for the idea! Nancy

Shortshot80 will put you on our prayer list in bible class next time we meet. This would be a good time to put a shout out for those who make entries here and are 50+ to get the shingles vaccine. That was on my bucket list to do when I turned 60-as that was the suggested age-shingles came before the age and the ride was not a pleasant one. Fortunately I started treatment well before the breakout sadly I was misdiagnosed three days prior but the shingles journey can be a very rough, long and painful ride. As I have been there and done that I don't want to take that ride every again-by the way if you didn't know you can get shingles again-well according to a pharmacist that filled my scripts. Another reason to be vaccinated.

Great idea! I didn't know that there was a vacine. This is the second time for the shingles, and the worst of all. I think I was in my 50's the first time . Nancy (short shot)

Thank you, I would be delighted to be on your Prayer list. One of the ladies brought us lunch yesterday. Very good to eat someone else's cooking. The leg the shingles is on, is so weak, I almost drop to the floor. Only thing that stops me is the Walker. So many things, I have trouble accepting "help"I'm 83 years old and have done everything mostly myself. It's hard to accept "Help" of any kind. I have to have help today, going to take a shower. My husband is 89 and on oxygen so not able to help much. Oldest Son 65 lives with us to help, but he doesn't want to help in the shower. (I don't blame him). It is really very tired out today! The shingles on my right leg has changed the skin. Makes it feel "funny, tough"., I can't even have a flu shot now for over a month/siz weeks. Have to see the oncologist next week, and some kidnew doc;'s soon. . I slept most the night, but still tired. thanks. Nancy Bush (shortshot80)

My significant other has delt with shingle break outs. Terrible thing. She just got the treatment a couple months ago. So yes take it seriously.

i'm not sure who this is directed to but I get my pacemaker checked quarterly and see my EP once a year. I was fortunate to have one of the top EP's in the country and I am totally comfortable with our set up.

After reading your post , my heart and nerve damage problems seem so insignificant I hate to mention them. You Sir are an inspiration to me amd should be to others. Im 70 years old and thought I was way over the hill
