Oxygen therapy and dry lips, no petroleum, what is best?

Posted by snoots @snoots, Feb 14 2:09pm

What is the best lip balm for dry lips, I have been using Berts bees, but I don’t think that’s helping anymore. So what is everybody using that doesn’t have petroleum in it?

I know everyone thinks vaseline is a problem. I don't think anyone is sitting close to anything that sparks. I remembered the other day that sometimes you would walk across your carpet, for example, and touch the TV or something and a spark. That was even far away from the nose. I have been on 02 24/7 for 5 yrs. I went and bought the water based product and all it did IMO was disappear very fast. I talked to my son about that and he did research and the level of flamability is not high at all. I use that all the time even when lips are chapped and such. I use it every night and day for my nostrils as they need to be lubed. Now this is my 5 yrs of experience. I sit at a campfire that isn't sparking but one spark and back off just for the cannula alone. Just my personal input. All the best to you in your journey Greetings from Canada

I use one from Aquaphor. Just be careful when buying, because the one with Vaseline looks the same as the one without it. Here is an Amazon link to it—“Aquaphor Lip Repair”: Octyldodecanol is the first ingredient

I find O'Keeffe's lip repair works better than Burt's Bee's.

@mjm10312011 I just checked the O’Keefe Lip Repair item. I like that it says it comes unscented and non-cooling (no peppermint). I don’t know if there are any ingredients that could be off-putting. The only issue with this product is that it has petrolatum, which should be avoided with oxygen use. When I first started using oxygen, I was not told about this and used products with it without any problem. I just figure I’d rather be safe than sorry, esp. with my increased oxygen needs,

I use whatever helps reduce chapped lips on my lips. It often is NOT water based. I avoid open flames and have never had an issue.
I only use water-based products in my nose because of danger of potential limpoid pneumonia from petroleum-based products. You can check with your O2 provider and/or your lung doc for more guidance.
