Nighttime Dry Mouth
I'm a 79-year-old female with idiopathic dry mouth that has become progressively worse in the past two years. I go to bed at 11pm and will wake up every hour with dry mouth. When I wake up, I'll use either Act gum, sprays, water, or lozenges. By 5am, my mouth is so dry I have to get up and eat breakfast.
Tests for autoimmune diseases have been negative. Taking Pilocarpine gave me a headache.
Had anyone had success with products that work during the night?

@ivannafeelgood I tape my mouth with sleep strips that are
Slightly ventilated in the middle of the strip so sneezes don’t blow out your ears 🙂 I do also spray my mouth with AllDay dry mouth spray.

2 ReactionsI too test negative but I am up every hour at night. I wear a chin strap to keep my mouth shut, take pilocarpine and use Biotene mouth wash every time I get up. It is miserable. The Biotene will allow me to go back to sleep.
I also get up because I have bronchiectasis and have coughing spells.
Oh to be young and sleep through the night.

1 ReactionIt varies greatly. Last might except for a bathroom interruption i slept 7.5 hours! Some nights i am up at 3am - which would normally be 5ish hours. sometimes if I turn on tv to something boring I can go back to sleep. Sometimes not. I’d say avg is 6 hours

1 ReactionHello, Try chewing gum with xylitol, mine is Choochoo and there is a lip and mouth cream you can apply before bed with xylitol made by Oracoat. Also Biotin mouthwash with xylitol. These seem to help.

2 Reactions@kmm29 --- Be VERY careful keeping chewing gum, or anything in your mouth while you sleep. One can choke very easily. Mouthwash, or of course any liquid is fine.
My aunt died from choking on a drop in her sleep. There should be a warning on the box of this possibility.

1 Reaction@pb50 I couldn’t wear the mouth tape - I have claustrophobia and I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I’m a big mouth breather - don’t know what to do now.

2 ReactionsBe careful to keep anything with xylitol away from dogs and cats. Dogs who ingest xylitol suffer a severe drop in blood sugar and can also suffer liver damage. The jury is out on how seriously cats are affected, but that is probably because a cat will typically only ingest a small amount. Don't take a chance.

3 Reactions@bouf1948 It helps some. I got the one at Amazon that is rated 5 stars. It fits well. I wish the Biotene rinse lasted longer.
