Nicotine patches to treat long-COVID?

I recently learned that nicotine patches alleviate long-COVID symptoms such as brain fog and cognitive function. Anyone try that yet?

they have helped me, but had to switch to gum due to bad reaction to adhesive. supposed to remove spike protein and maybe so, but seemed like more of a stimulant effect to give me energy I don't otherwise have. Haven't used in a while, as upsets my stomach. good luck getting relief

If you’re a non smoker or a recovering smoker wouldn’t the patch be a non-starter

I thought about this, but after being addicted to nicotine for years, it's not a good idea for me and they are expensive.
I have found luck with sativa cannabis candies that have cbd. 200 mg a day seems to help my energy level. They're not as pricey as nicotine patches, but I live in a state where it's legal.

Wow, that article you cite sure has an immense amount of gobblygook (sp?)?
In the end, it seems they only experimented with four subjects.

This topic has been discussed before here; please use the handy search box. Some people find nicotine helpful, others not.

I didn't try patches, but did purchase some gum, thinking it would at least give me some stimulation (my nearly sole symptom is chronic fatigue).
I started at a low dose, since I've never been a nicotine user, but feeling no effect, I eventually tried 7mg. gum, but again, without any results.

But you might well want to experiment for yourself, as people vary so incredibly much in both their symptoms, as well as what they respond to.

I had a good experience using nicotine patches. What worked for me might not work for everyone. I am 85.
I had Covid in 2022 and again in March of 2025 adding up to about 3 years of long Covid.
About 6 months after the first time I started getting heavy sinus infections every 8 to 10 weeks, every time needing antibiotics to prevent it from spreading to the throat and lungs. It was also affecting my hearing.
I was getting rashes on the upper chest which I teated based on my dermatologist's recommendations - a sequence of trial and error applying different prescription creams. In the meantime I was still trying to keep the sinus inflammations under control. Following covid earlier this year I consulted with a DO who suggested to use nicotine patches, starting daily with 14 mg for 6 weeks. Within one week I noticed the rashes were disappearing, and after 4 weeks I didn't get further sinus infections. I continued with 7 mg every 2-3 days.
That ordeal seems to be behind me.
Like others have experienced, the patches do irritate the skin, so I placed them every time in areas without irritation. Contrary to those who posted somewhere else that they gave up because of skin irritation or some dizziness, nausea etc, I only noticed some light unusual feelings in the first nights, but I just ignored it intent to see if it had positive results.
One long covid issue I struggle with is that I have lost most of my energies. What was not any effort 6 months ago is now more tiring or exhausting. I haven't found anything yet that helps me get my energy back. I am working on it.

I’m currently struggling with long covid and ear symptoms. The fatigue is terrible. I’m 51 and what I used to be able to do I need to take breaks even now it’s the ear issues they feel clogged and are very sensitive to sound. And have some pain and vertigo. I started using the nic patches cuz idk what to do either and read some good things. Only day 4 in. I swear I can taste better. The energy is not there yet. But an article I read says to take for 14-30 days. I’ll keep u updated as plz do you all. I have never tried the thc sativa. Now im curious. I have a weed card but haven’t used in since I got sick last November with this.

I have not tried the Nicotine Patches, but I’ve read that you can take them off at night if they’re causing bad dreams and reapply the next day.
