Newly diagnosed invasive ductal and lobular in right breast

Posted by maggiejinx @maggiejinx, May 29 2:35pm

Hi. I just turned 50. I was recently diagnosed with a 6.1 cm non mass like enhancement which is confirmed invasive ductal and lobular cancer. I see the surgeon on Tuesday to find out the plan. I do believe he will recommend mastectomy due to the size and it is located centrally and under the nipple. I am debating where to have the left breast removed also even though it is not showing any signs of cancer. I don’t want to go flat for emotional reasons and also I am a double D bra size so it would be a huge difference between the sides. But it also makes me sad removing a healthy breast. I am also wondering whether I will need chemo before or after. Has anyone experienced this diagnosis or similar? I should add there is no lymph node involvement.

Thank you so much for your reply!! I am definitely looking forward to being done with the drain!! Today was less pain. Im now sleeping all night and going 6 hours or so between pain meds during the day so I feel like Im doing pretty good. I wasn’t expecting my armpit to be so sore but it’s getting better every day too. I had my oncology type before surgery and it was 11. My tumor was pretty large though so I don’t know what they will recommend. Overall I feel really positive about improving each day even if it’s just little bit. Thank you so much for your care and kind words. I really appreciate the support!!

I will have my 3rd infusion the end of August. The chemo side effects are horrible and I'm doing what I can to get through them but it's a struggle.

I just had lumpectomy at Mayo Rochester to remove 8cm invasive ductal carcinoma in rt breast. Mammogram at home in NC in july was normal. Molecular breast imaging developed at Mayo ..for dense breasts. Discovered tumor.
1 week radiation will be in sept
The support .compassion and ongoing education I have received have been lifelines for me. Mayo treatment for a different cancer last year has yielded positive outcome.
I trust my team at Breast Cancer Clinic at Mayo. My savings are going into this long distance commute but its been worth every mile and every penny .. im.part of an incredible team and a different way to approach healing. Healing and curing being separate concepts. Best wishes on your journey. Highly recommend trip to Rochester MN for Mayo consult
