New tracking water bottle for hydration

Posted by vostie @vostie, 3 days ago

My hubby has LDB and has a significant problem staying hydrated. We have tried everything to track his water consumption but he has still been significantly dehydrated twice this summer so our doctor suggested getting a tracking water bottle. We are now using the Hidrate Spark smart water bottle.

I synced the bottle to the Hidrate Spark app on my phone and can track his water consumption during the day. He enjoys seeing if he is making his water goals and the bottle lights up at the bottom to let him know if he is behind. The bottle does not come with an instruction manual so you have to download it from the Hidrate Spark website.

We are having much better compliance with hydration and I love that I can just check in to see if he needs to be reminded during the day.

The bottle comes in several models - we got the steel flip top model with a chug lid but will now be switching that over to the straw lid as the chug requires you to lift the bottle and put you head back to take a sip. It also comes in a cup that looks like a Starbucks cool drink mug with a straw.

That’s a cool idea. I’m often dehydrated which throws off some of my blood test results.
Right now I put 4 rubber bands near the top of my water bottle and move one down to the bottom half every time I refill. It works, but I’m guessing I’ll get tired of the rubber bands!

I have two 1 L bottles and also two 0.5 L bottles. At night all four are filled and I take them out of the refrigerator the next day as I consume them. I aim for having one 1 L bottle empty by noon, and then the second 1 L bottle empty during the afternoon. I use the 0.5 L bottles as extras and for short carries when I don't want the weight of a 1 L bottle. I have two caps with loops on them so that the bottle can be easily carried; those caps fit any of the bottles. Liquids consumed with meals or other liquids consumed are just "gravy"; I don't count them in my daily totals. I'm doing much better staying hydrated.

Love this as I am constsntly counting small bottles to get my husband to dring enough. The ones on amazon don’t mention coming with a cup, what is your specific model because and how does cup work?

Hubby want the 21 ounce brushed steel bottle so we ordered this one with the chug lid.

Now he wishes he had the straw lid instead of the chug lid but the standalone straw lids are out of stock right now.

The bottle works with an app that you download onto your phone...once the bottle and app are synced by the Bluetooth on your phone, you can fill the bottle and the app will track every sip. I can check on my phone to see how he is doing throughout the day as it shows total ounces drunk...and I think just knowing I am watching helps him to drink more. He is also quite proud when we check in the morning to see how well he did the day before.

The bottle can be configured in the app to flash every hour if they are not drinking enough and can also send text messages if they are falling behind. I have to initially charge the bottle for about 2 hours and then it should be good for about 10 days before it needs recharging.
