New Sleep Medication: Anyone taking Dayvigo (lemborexant)?

Is anyone taking Dayvigo? My psychiastrist is tapering me off valium and has given me Dayvigo instead. I have PTSD and Major Depressive Disorder and been on benzodiazipines for many, many years for anxiety and sleep. The Dayvigo is as addictive as benzos!

Just some extra info, taking a xanax or a clonazepam during the anxiety attack does absolutely nothing to stop the shaking, jerky movements. So it must be originating from a part of the brain that benzos have no effect on

Can you call your doc who prescribed? They may want to change. One med to fix another one is termed poly pharmacy

Hello all, I cannot find much information with this and was wondering if anyone had had any experience. I started taking Dayvigo about 2 weeks ago and 7 days in, while it does make me sleep very well I have extreme daytime anxiety which begins about 14h after the dose the night before (I can almost set my watch to it). Eventually it subsides but while it is happening I can sometimes not even leave my house, it's awful but it's not in the list of side effects especially for 14h after taking the tablet, sleeping etc. Has anyone else had this experience or knows someone that has?Thank you for your help.

I never heard of this medication before so I looked into it, the side effects were pretty bad, it’s no wonder that you’re experiencing a tough aftermath. I realize that many medications have some side affects but this one is not a good choice to be honest, I have a habit of researching the meds that I’m prescribed, it’s not always a good practice but I have spared myself a few bad drugs over the years for doing this.

@frouke -You are VERY wise to do that. I do as well and many times have upset the physician taking care of me. I believe there should be a pharmacist assigned to every office and when a patient is place on a new medication that Pharmacist should do a medication review before the patient even leaves the office. Drs will poly-Pharm patients to death and treat side effects with additional medications and before you know it you are taking tons of meds and no wonder you have reactions to all of them. CMS States that patients - mainly geriatric - should be on no more than 9 medications!

As @frouke mentioned, I would suggest contacting the prescribing doctor to let them know about the anxiety. Perhaps there is another medication you are taking, that is causing a bad side effect because you take them both. It doesn't matter if those meds are taken different times. They just might not be a good combination.

If your medications are filled by the same pharmacy, you could ask the pharmacist if there is any "red flag" warning that comes up for interactions for Davigo. Is this possible?

I have but they've never heard of this reaction and regardless it happens exactly 15 hours after the dose so I switched back to dormonoct, thank you

I've switched back to dormonoct. The symptoms stopped almost immediately, thank you

Yes it's the orexin centre not the GABA centre which is why I stopped the medicine and the symptoms have ceased, thank you for your reply!

Hi, sorry for your troubles with this medication, I had a similar experience with another medication, it worked well but the aftermath was awful, I went from feeling relaxed and comfortable and later on I was shaking and anxious. I did some research and found that it contained codeine, a pain medication. I think that your sleep meds are not good for you and although I am not a medical professional your symptoms are indicative of a type of reaction that you shouldn’t have. I would suggest that you speak with your doctor and let them know what you’re experiencing, they can give you something else to use for a sleeping aid. Also when you’re taking benzodiazepines they can interfere with other things you take, I take them too and I know from experience that they can sometimes change the effects of other medications, I hope that you find a good solution for your problem.

Yes no one has but it's also a relatively new drug. For the time being I've switched back to my old sleeping aid. Often it takes years for the often many side effects to be recorded for a new medication
