New research on “abzymes” may explain Long Covid

From despair to hope! I just came across this article about a research paper that researchers at UVA published last week. The group discovered that, in some people infected with Covid-19, antibodies to the Covid-19 spike protein are so similar to ACE2 that they actually possess enzymatic activity that mimics the enzymatic activity of ACE2. These types of antibodies are called abzymes. While this research demonstrates that these abzymes exist in a small subset of Covid patients, the extrapolation to their role in Long Covid hasn’t been confirmed, but my God, it seems promising!
