Does anyone have these problems? How do you handle it?

@tarmansbks Thank you. As I might have mentioned, she loves studying the Zohar and the Talmud. She attends classes on Zoom and is observing holidays and getting up the nerve to go to Temple. It's great to see her blossom. She is truly happy. And you're right, converting to Judaism is a huge deal.

For me the anxiety issues are mainly under control with ativan but occasionally I get those middle of the night panic attacks which are bad enough to consider going to the ER except I have a companion dog and live alone and don't want to depend on neighbors to watch her. The digestive issues are a different thing. Have had every test possible to determine reason and all negative, bloodwork, ultrasound, endoscopy, abdominal x-rays, pelvic exams, gastric emptying, etc. The last one will be the hydrogen breath test in November. The frequent nausea with or without a headache is a nuisance multiple times a week capped with constipation issues. What a cycle! I read, walk the dog (a 14 year old rescue I got in June when my 15 year old died in May). My husband died about 15 months ago during the height of covid and his calming absence is sorely missed. There is no replacement for that loss. I live in a retirement community with lots of activities but I am an introvert. I wish I knew what the nausea was about. I listen to You Tube sessions on gut and nausea and they are helpful but not entirely.

To all those on this group, I am sympathetic to your trials to find peace and contentment and I do agree with those who have lost a beloved pet and have had a new companion join you.

Considering the devasting lost of your spouse and dog, I'd say you are doing extremely well making it day to day.
The anxiety is what happens. Period. It can put our lives at a stop--horrible. Give yourself the best treatment you can, forgive yourself, love yourself.

It will take a while to get thru all this. I'm living a similar situation. Trying to just live day to day is an effort. My rescued dog is not the same, but she helps. I so understand.
Most likely there is nothing physically wrong, but anxiety is taking its toll on you.
You are doing everything correct.
Recommend the best therapist you can afford for neuropsychological support.

Thank you linamend. I was never one to face a battle without courage that I can overcome an obstacle. I was paralyzed totally from polio when I was 10 months old and life has been a series of compensations mostly met with success but not 100% perfect but how many of us can claim that 100%. Yes, our rescued dog is not the same as the one we loved and lost but given a chance and time, you and I have given an opportunity for our new companions to be as much loved as the former ones.

Suzanne, I had a used bookstore at one point in my life and was trying to recall what the Zohar was as I know I didn;t carry many mainstream religious books but did carry books on Judaism. I am sure the Zohar presents much of interest. I recall reading James Michener's THE SOURCE and thinking how much suffering the Jewish people have endured over time. It takes courage to embrace a religion outside your usual sphere of experience. I salute your sister for making the effort. She should not fear going to Temple. I went to morning Mass at a small church to get comfortable with the service - could not receive the host but could participate otherwise. Perhaps she can watch something on You Tube that would make her first visit comfortable. When I was in Luther League in Jr. High, our group went to a Temple on a Friday night and a Greek Orthodox church another time. I loved those experiences. She should not fear attending, I am sure she will be welcomed. M.E.

As a student of comparative religions, start w the simplest book on the Zohar. Mysticism is awesome but complex! Good luck!

You most definitely have courage that I admire. Thank you for inspiring me with my own anxiety and mental health problems. A divorce when my spouse left me because of my chronic pain, left me devastated. Her Karma will have to deal w it.

Strong individuals like you give me hope. I am a retired scientist, and re-seeking my gnostic roots. Pain, anxiety, PTSD, inability to concentrate, being non-binary, it all adds up to a tough road to travel. Lin

She’s studying with a Jewish scholar who published a translation of the Zohar. She’s grateful to be in such a knowledgeable group. It took him nine years to complete the translation.

Thanks for the positive feedback. At first she felt in over her head. But in the past month she said the leader of the group and many of the members are quite generous.

What a wonderful business to have a bookstore. They are interesting gathering places.
