Nebulizing time with Aerobika

Is it just me or does Aerobika take twice as long to nebulize meds?

I’m fairly new to the nebulizing with the Aerobika and Aeroeclipse combo. I tried it with the compressor I had but did have to buy the Ombra compressor for this combination. I’m really glad I spent the money. Initially I was concerned because I was not finishing all of the saline in the 30 minutes that the compressor can continually run. After further reflection I have come to these conclusions:

1. When set on breath activation mode none of the saline is escaping into the air between breaths. I only nebulize around 2-3ml with the Aerobika attached. My old compressor took 20 minutes to do 4ml, but some escaped into the air.

2. After doing airway clearance for a year I know when my lungs feel “normal” to me. I use the combination for 30 minutes or until I feel clear. Sometimes it takes 20 minutes and sometimes it takes 30 minutes. I always have leftover saline in the cup but I stop when my lungs feel good.

3. I know how much mucus I usually produce with each clearance session so I use that as a gauge too. I used to nebulize for 20 minutes and then do airway clearance for 20-30 minutes. I am getting the same production from 20-30 minutes of this combo. This is saving me a lot of time!

I have this forum to thank for telling me about this system. I love the way we support and learn from each other. It has been invaluable to me!

Have you compared the Aeroeclipse/Ombra with the Pari options?

I use a Pari Proneb max compressor with the AeroEclipse XL nebulizer set. At NJH they just ask if I had a compressor & didn’t push the OMBRA® Compressor. But with the Pari I don’t see an option to use continuous flow.

how do you sterilize the AeroEclipse XL?

@scoop

When I use liquid Albuterol or Levalbuterol it’s about 10 minutes. The 7% saline takes 20 minutes with the breath activation turned off. I pause and huff cough every 5 to 10 minutes or when I feel mucus moving. FWIW I use it in the morning only and use a faster nebulizer in the evening. It is time consuming but I think this set up gets deeper in the lungs.

Hi what is this function breath activation off. Is it on a regular nebula set? I use medline

I am sorry but I think I don’t understand . Is there a nebulizer that works together with aerobica. Does it mean you nebulize and breath through aerobika at the same time? What machine is used for the two actions simultaneously?

@dltorres it’s the AeroEclipse XL nebulizer that has a continuous flow option not the compressor. The compressor is either on or off. The AeroEclipse XL nebulizer has two settings - the post above describes it well.

Please read Susanp64’s post above, she describes the AeroEclipse XL nebulizer function well.

@irenea8 I soak in hot water and dawn for about 10 minutes, rinse and then I put it in a microwave steam bag. I also boil it once a week. From what I’ve gathered here, my treatment of it is overkill. Some people only sterilize/steam bag once a week. Reading the care instructions with the AeroEclipse XL nebulizer is likely a good idea. If I remember correctly, it said something about decisions on how to clean it/sterilize it are based on disease condition.

I soak the Aerobika and Aeroeclipse in hot water with Dawn dishwashing liquid for for 20 minutes after every use. I rinse it and put all parts in a Bololo Baby Bottle Sterilizer. I put the cup and the outside components in the bottom section and the Aeroeclipse lid and aerokiba interior component on the shelf. It sterilizes for 20 minutes and dries for 40 minutes. I store it in the sterilizer until the next use. When I am in a hurry or traveling I use a Medela steam bag.

how can you nebulize through aerobika. I know the aerobika as a pep device. Are the special parts that enable nebulize saline and do aerobika at the same time or i dont know about something that could save time and also be more effective.
