Complications/symptoms after Gallbladder Surgery

Posted by kalenkerby @kalenkerby, Oct 21, 2018

Hello. I am a Male 32. I had my gall bladder removed 4 days ago. Since I have had strange pains and feelings. Nausea after I eat Everytime. I realized after it's removal my stomach will have swelling, but it feels like there is a Large Knot just right of my Belly button. I also have had severe Hunger type pains. It's the only thing that I can compare it too. Very bad and painful pains that resemble Severe Hunger pains. I have also had headaches since the surgery. Mainly the right back of my head, it feels like there is a Knot under my skull almost. It doesn't hurt severely, but it does hurt sometimes worse than others. And nothing seems to help. Almost a throbbing pain. And of course pain across my entire abdomen. Top to bottom. Side to side. Which is to be expected I guess. But I have have more pain in my right chest and under my left breast off and on. What of these are to be expected and not?

My daughter had her gallbladder out about 2 mo ago. Still having same pains as before . Back and stomach pain about 15 to 20 min after she eats anything. Has lost about 20 lbs since. All her scopes , MRI and everything are coming in normal. Not sure what is going on.

She has done an elimination diet. Had a endoscopy and colonoscopy. She has been tested for Crohn's and Celia disease. They have tried meds for acid reflux, anti nausea, and anti spasm pills. Sorry to hear you are going through this. I will be praying for you.

Hello @ambergoulet

I see that you last posted a month ago regarding your daughter's difficulties recovering from surgeries in December. Is she doing any better now?

Hello, I’m new on here. In need of some help. I had my gallbladder removed 9 weeks ago and I am still experiencing some difficult symptoms and am not getting better. Has anyone experienced nausea, feeling lightheaded, headaches, unable to eat much and losing weight this long after gallbladder removal. The nausea lasts all day. I actually feel worse than I did before I had the surgery. My quality of life has changed and it’s hard to function. I am very fatigued and tire easy. I do try and stay positive and do my best to get through the day. I have seen my doctor and had tons of tests and everything comes back ok. I’m worried that I won’t get better. Please help as I’m trying to not become depressed.

I lost 30 pounds after gallbladder surgery, it was actually pretty intense, I've been overweight most of my life. I ate right for about a month, everything was good. But I'm about 2 to 3 months in after, I've gained my weight back. Plus some. Because I went back to eating normal, honestly when the surgery was done the doctor told me I could eat anything I wanted. But I didn't, I chose to try, as soon as I did start to eat fatty foods, the weight gain was fast. But not even that. The bloating for after one out to eat meal, lasted for 3 days. My daughter likes to play on my belly, its always been fine. After about 2 or 3 months going in. She sits on my belly and it feels weird. I have timed it just to see if I would get back to normal one day, but no after about 30 seconds, I am uncomfortable, it hurts a little and it feels weird. I can't even lay right. The first 3 weeks or month that's fine. But I'm going on 3 months. And nothing is the same. Any pressure on my belly or any touch feels like someone is inside my stomach, I don't think that's normal, and I'm so seeing if I will ever feel the same. I never went for a check up because I don't have insurance, but I mean the doctors new that, so I wouldn't doubt it if my procedure wasn't something just to play around with. And also I still get gallbladder pains. I get dizzy, nauseated, and sometimes I throw up after I eat. And when I don't eat at all because I'm working. I get the pain.but why?? If I don't have a gallbladder? And if I haven't ate why should I even get that symptom ?

You're real early after surgery. They should have put you on a special diet for a while. When I had mine out I had to stay away from fatty foods and alcohol. No fried foods, fatty and harder to digest meats, and stay away from gravy. Pretty much a soft bland diet. After about 6 weeks I could try different fattier foods to see what I can eat. After about 6 months I could eat my regular diet. Take your time and you'll be happy.

Hello. I'm curious if your "hunger pains" ever subsided? I had gb removal a year ago and have recently started severe hunger pains throughout the day?? They come suddenly so I feel like I might projectile vomit at times. Usu don't last long. Seems like if I eat they go away but it happens even when I should not b hungry?? I had these symptoms briefly just before the surgery also but not near as bad. Any suggestions welcome plz

Have you had an endoscopy? I had severe hunger pains and in an endoscopy ulcers were found.

Hi All,

I dont know if this discussion board is the right place for our problem but my mother has gladbladder removed many years ago. After 3-4 months from the operation she had started to feel very bad symptoms listed below;

1. Very bad aches in the right side under the rib cage, starting from front to the back
2. Very hard breath during this ache
3. At night, before this symptoms start in the day, we have discomfort and interrupted sleep.
4. Green stool
5. Bad apetit and very bad bitter taste in mouth

These syptoms go on 2-3 days after started.

Doctors say that bile cordon has been left a bit longer than it should be.

Since we under the very bad life conditions, I would be very hapy any information that will help us.

Thank you very much in advance.

Yuksel, did the doctors say that the bile cord being left longer could cause any of these issues? Is she currently on any medication after surgery?

Dear Amanda,

Thank you for your valuable direction.

Doctors didnot say anything bad for longer cord. We had operation 35 years ago and 3 more operations because of these problems. Now we are not using any medication.

Amanda, we did many things, taking many MRIs, Xrays, Ultrasounds..etc. We also take into account potential psychological problems and took antidepresants but result did not change.

My hope is to find someone who has same problems or a doctor who met a patient like this.

During the problems someting near belly button is like carving with scrwedriver and if we try to breath during aches, something is hunging under rib cage and becomes very hard to breath.

We need remedy and hope to find..

Thank you for your help Amanda..

@yuksel

Pain around the belly button could be a hernia. With pain like you describe it could be what they call strangulating hernia... which means it cuts off blood supply and can be very dangerous. It would need attention as in surgery. I am no doctor so this is not a diagnosis.. only a possibility. Make sure your doctors know about it.
