Complications/symptoms after Gallbladder Surgery

Posted by kalenkerby @kalenkerby, Oct 21, 2018

Hello. I am a Male 32. I had my gall bladder removed 4 days ago. Since I have had strange pains and feelings. Nausea after I eat Everytime. I realized after it's removal my stomach will have swelling, but it feels like there is a Large Knot just right of my Belly button. I also have had severe Hunger type pains. It's the only thing that I can compare it too. Very bad and painful pains that resemble Severe Hunger pains. I have also had headaches since the surgery. Mainly the right back of my head, it feels like there is a Knot under my skull almost. It doesn't hurt severely, but it does hurt sometimes worse than others. And nothing seems to help. Almost a throbbing pain. And of course pain across my entire abdomen. Top to bottom. Side to side. Which is to be expected I guess. But I have have more pain in my right chest and under my left breast off and on. What of these are to be expected and not?

Another thing that I want to say is that it is okay to call your doctor who performed the surgery. You should have been given contact information when you were discharged. If it is something to be concerned about, you will want to know so that it can be treated.

I agree you should contact surgeon about your pain symptoms and definitely the headache. I had the laparoscopic surgery also. I had intense pain after eating a very small meal after I returned home. The bike duct can swell up some after surgery and causes pain like before surgery. It will pass. My daughter was given a fatty meal by mistake in the hospital after her surgery and got very sick.
Pain in right side and chest could also be due to nerve irritation. Please contact your surgeon!!

Hi Kalen, have you had an endoscopy to rule out ulcers? I had my gallbladder out and had similar pain and after they found ulcers. I’m not a doctor but it’s worth looking at.

Hello, I’m new on here. In need of some help. I had my gallbladder removed 9 weeks ago and I am still experiencing some difficult symptoms and am not getting better. Has anyone experienced nausea, feeling lightheaded, headaches, unable to eat much and losing weight this long after gallbladder removal. The nausea lasts all day. I actually feel worse than I did before I had the surgery. My quality of life has changed and it’s hard to function. I am very fatigued and tire easy. I do try and stay positive and do my best to get through the day. I have seen my doctor and had tons of tests and everything comes back ok. I’m worried that I won’t get better. Please help as I’m trying to not become depressed.

Hang in there. Not sure of your age but surgery is hard no matter your age but especially as we are older. I am almost 3 weeks post op for a different surgery. It’s very normal to get down. I hope you get answers soon.

Hello. Thank you. I so glad I stumbled onto this site. Have you heard of symptoms I describe after gallbladder removal lasting awhile or the recovery taking a longer period of time? My doctor says it’s not normal for it take this long and most recover after 2-4 weeks. I’m getting worried. I really want to know if anyone else has experienced this. Any info or insight would be greatly appreciated. Take care.

Hi VIcki, i’m sorry to hear you are suffering. It’s very tough going through this. Has your doctor ran any test for you, bloodwork, ct scan, ultrasound to rule out any issues that might be causing your issues? I’ve had a ton of tests and all ok. I guess it’s just my body taking longer to recover and adjust to not having a gallbladder. Everyone is different. I’d like to hear of others who had prolonged issues/symptoms after gallbladder surgery and got better and maybe what has helped them get through it. It would give hope tha things will get better. I hope things settle down for you soon. Best wishes, Johnette
