Naltrexone

I discussed L low dose Naltrexone with my doctor. The research is showing that doses of 4.5 mg is having some positive results. I tried 4.5-6 mg in 2023. Although it seemed to help some, I stopped taking it due to the price as I have no insurance and Naltrexone is not available in such a small dose unless compounded at a special pharmacy. We discussed my trying it again, as I am desperate to feel better and function better. I started taking 25 mg of Naltrexone about a week or so ago. I took it at night. This was a mistake as I could not sleep so I changed to taking it in the morning. It does help. Just fyi...it can't hurt to try it for all of you who I know are struggling with this debilitating virus that has wrecked our bodies.

I am taking 25 mg. I tried the low dose but the compound was too expensive as Big Pharma does not make anything lower than 25 mg. It has helped me a lot AFTER I take it. I wake up with the post exertion malaise and fatigue and just poisoned feeling. After I take my medications, I can function for most of the day but I do crash in the late afternoon and evenings. I will take what I can get. I hope it works for you!

I haven't heard of anyone taking 25mg. Are you experiencing side effects? Did you decide to try this dosage with your doctor?
Good luck and thanks for sharing.

Most any compounding pharmacy can make naltrexone in any dosage your doctor prescribes. I checked with 5 compounding pharmacies in my home town Tucson as well as pharmacies in Florida, Michigan, and California. Prices ranged from $105 to $150 for a 3 month supply.

Constipation, but I use psyllium husks in my morning water/Emergen C and it helps. My doctor and I decided to try it. I am an unemployed graduate student. I had to quit working when I got this virus. I am living off student loans, so even $100 for medicine like a compounded Naltrexone is too much. It is helping but I woke up feeling terrible this morning. Double edged sword here. I do when I feel like doing, thanks to meds...but I wake up the next day feeling poisoned from the fatigue and post-exertion malaise. It is like a nightmare groundhog day, but I am still here and it could always be worse.

I started in July 2024 taking 3 mg and have worked my way up to 4.5, which Dartmouth LC clinic says is the recommended dose. It works differently in your body if you take higher doses. they also told me it could take up to 7-9 months for it to give the full benefit. I started getting an energy benefit much more in month 7-8. I cannot take anything at night, as I already have insomnia. I take all 4.5 in the morning. Is it perfect? No. Can I now do things that I couldn't do before? yes. I was sofa bound for 2.5 years and can now do my housework if I schedule 1 room a day thru the week, walk my dog 1 mile, and do a few other things here and there. That is SO much better than not being able to cook food or clean anything!

I tried4.5 and even went up to 6 mg about a year ago and I did not get any relief. I may try again if I can do it financially. I am not in a good situation and the 25 mg are not expensive. I am giving this a try and it helps during the day but I am waking up feeling terrible these last two days. I know it is post-exertion malaise and inflammation. I hate it, but I have to just keep going. Hang in there everyone.

I started taking LDN about 3 months ago after having had long covid for almost 4 years. I started feeling the results at about one month in. I take 4.5 mg at night. I sleep just fine. The best news is that my fatigue is almost gone. I was at about 10% of normal energy levels and now I’m feeling about 75% normal pre-long covid. I did have hypothyroidism and my hormones were totally messed up. Now my thyroid is normal and am taking nothing for it anymore. Same with bio identical hormones I was taking. I’m off of those completely! My digestion is back on track. Body fat has somehow redistributed itself and I no longer have a big belly and weak muscles. Weird and so cool!
I get the LDN from a mail order compounding pharmacy in Montrose Colorado. It’s $55 for a 3 month supply.
I hope this is helpful to someone out there. In my case it’s been a total hormone and immune system reset!
