Myectomy Incision

This is sort of a vanity question….well I guess it's a TOTAL Vanity question. I have looked all over online to see just where on the chest and how long the incision is. Can find NOTHING. I don't wear low cut tops but I do have some scoop neck tops and dresses. How much will the scar show? Will I have to start wearing tops go to my neck?

I’ve just looked at my husbands scar (surgery last October) it’s visible about 2 inches below the clavicle ( think about the fact that your breast bone will be split )
As soon as you get the go ahead from your surgeon start applying scar cream, it keeps your scar soft and and will be lighter as time goes on.

Thanks, @rrowner2. I’m also tagging @thull @johnbishop @jmjlove since they’ve mentioned incision scars recently; perhaps they can share some tips.

What I found that helps with the scars is massage when it has healed enough to be comfortable, keeping it moisturized, I use a lotion that has vitamin E in it, also putting Mederma on it, which is a gel for scars. Also important to put sunscreen on it if it will be exposed to the suns rays. I hope this helps!

@sheim @kanaazpereira and others, Mayo Clinic has a webinar that might be helpful. Here's the link…

I am now almost 4 weeks post surgery (Septal Myectomy) and still have what's called soft tissue swelling. It reaches to my throat and even at times interferes with swallowing. Bending my chin down does allow me to swallow and the Dr says it WILL go away ……in time. I have not read anything about anyone having this issue OR the fact that the top of the incision is so high up.
