My Revision is Scheduled, Now I'm Nervous
Hi all - After the year from hell, I finally have a surgery date for the revision/reconstruction of my R TKR - October 15. I keep thinking about how bad the early days after my original surgery were and dread repeating all of that. I know what I'm in for. I'm also falling victim to "what if" thinking. I'd appreciate any advice, shared experience from anyone here who has had a revision. Was it worth it? Why? Was it not worth it? Why not?

@babette I have not had need for a revision but I can certainly understand your concerns. Although both of my TKRs went fairly well, particularly the second one, I would hate to go through that all again. You have told me a bit about your doctor though and it sounds as if you have found an excellent one so try to not worry. Having a great doctor is the most important part of the surgery. Initially I felt badly that you were not seeing Dr. Fitz but it sounds as if you have found a doctor who will be every bit as good as he is.
Try to think positively, as difficult as that may be. I hope all works out well for you, and I will be thinking of you. What day is the surgery scheduled?

I feel completely confident in my new surgeon. It's the inevitable post-op issues that are bothering me and unlikely to change: the hassle of the shower, the extreme scar sensitivity I experienced (for MONTHS). And I'm kind of sorry it's happening in mid-October because it puts the holidays in question and it means icy/snowy days right after my surgery. But, I'm assuming another long slow recovery and I have no reason to assume that! My complaints are petty when compared to the big picture: great medical care in Boston.
@babette I too had concerns about the scheduling of my last TKR. I had it in October, I think it was on the 17th, and my daughter was getting married in our home, in an intimate ceremony on the Saturday after Thanksgiving (November 25th). A large celebration/reception followed two weeks later in NYC on December 9th. I was fine for both occasions, much to my surprise because the first month+ was difficult. We went to NYC on the 7th to spend a couple of days beforehand sightseeing and I was able to walk all over the place -- in boots with a 2" heel! So try not to worry. The upcoming holidays will give you extra incentive to get back on your feet.
You are right, I don't think you can do better than the medical care in Boston. It's worth the drive for me, from southern NH.

@contentandwell You make great points! Thanks for the support and encouragement. Next, dh and I have to find our retirement house in Southern NH! 🙂 I can't remember if you've pm'd me about this or not.
@babette We are looking too, our house is way too big for the two of us and my husband wants to be on one floor. The prices are crazy. The little houses that all the same in the detached condo developments are more expensive than our sort of large home on over two acres! I get updates from Redfin and watch our town, Bedford, plus Windham, Londonderry, Hooksett, and sometimes the Nashua, Hollis, and Amherst areas. I would prefer Londonderry, Windham, or Hooksett because they are on the 93 corridor (easier drive to MGH) but my husband doesn't care for Londonderry.
Good luck. Let me know if you find anything and I will let you know if we finally get organized enough to really look.

@babette I'm wishing you the best recovery. I will be following your recovery updates when you are up to it. I too will be facing revision surgery in the future and I'm hoping the second time around when it is done correctly will be much easier.
@babette - I haven't had a revision, but I have followed your painful journey and I am absolutely confident you are doing the right thing. I am pulling for you. You go girl! And will you keep us posted?
