My results after 1 year of Evenity
I finished 12 months of Evenity in early October 2023 with thankfully zero significant side effects (a little tiredness, headache for a day or so) I am 67. My story is posted on my home page. I did maintain a good diet, exercised, walked, hopped, stomped, yoga, aqua dance, heel drops, stood on one foot whenever I could, ate prunes daily (5), eat my own L reuteri yogurt that I ferment, took algaecal plus (which only has trace strontium, not to be confused with strontium boost which I DID NOT take care for 2 grandchildren ages 2 and 4 twice a week. My point is I am pretty active. I had 4 previous separate fractures, 2 rib from hiking/biking falls and 2 wrists one from a fall off a few steps and another just weeks after my August 2022 DXA before I started meds. I was hiking in MT (mid September 2022) and turned to check on hubby and in an instant my foot hit a rock and I went down hard onto a rock. I shattered that wrist but had surgery and it healed. Started Evenity November 2022 (after covid) and after much research and medical opinions. Every morning I read the osteoporosis blogs from Mayo and have learned so much. Dr McCormicks Great Bones book is getting dog-eared.
I’m listening to Doug Lucas you tubes. We are all different but we are all trying so hard to help ourselves and really would rather not do meds but sometimes we just have to.
My bones did what Evenity said they would do. Spine went from -3.1 to -2.6 a 13.8% increase, femoral neck went from -3.3 to -3.0 a 7.5% improvement and total femur -3.0 to -2.7 a 5.4% improvement. Appointments and bloodwork in the next few days/week to see what’s next. I think I know the answer and I’m struggling. I believe it will be Prolia and I’m PANICKED about that. Concerned about time interval before starting. I will be having a CTX, not sure if that will help. I still have severe osteoporosis but the most important thing is I haven’t had a fracture!!
Any suggestions thoughts much appreciated.

@hikernurse SAME I had a very good oral surgeon say to me that I've had a lot of 'good, expensive' dental work in my past but that means I'll probably need more in my future. I think the dentists feelings are even if the theoretical risk of the jaw necrosis is low, for some of their patients - me, maybe you - it's higher just because we spend so much time in those goddamn chairs.
For now I'm still trying to avoid the drugs although would love to get back to skiing in this lifetime and that's what the drugs promise.
@marytlemons
I just had my first injection of Evenity three weeks ago. I am 75 and have been very reluctant to try any drugs, but my numbers have been quite low. I, too, have experienced extreme fatigue on Evenity, which is not even listed as a side effect. I can sleep for 10 hours at night and still feel extreme fatigue when I wake up in the morning. Then, throughout the day, I get headaches and fatigue off and on, usually late in the afternoon, for which I have to lie down. I told my doctor about this and she said "that is not a usual side effect". Well, it seems like we are not all alike.
I have also had some gut issues. And this is only my first dose. I might have to discontinue the Evenity because the fatigue is almost unbearable. I have been very active my whole life, walked to grade school, high school and all over in college. I have remained very active up until this age. I think no matter how active a person is, osteoporosis is just sometimes inevitable.
Please let me know if anyone else has suffered the extreme fatigue like I have.
thanks

1 Reaction@pam52 If you can hang on for 3 months you should get the majority of the benefit from Evenity/romosozumab. It sounds very difficult, but given that you have started consider the below information as part of your decision.
See this OsteoBoston interview with a doctor who is an osteoporosis specialist. The chart with the romosozumab (brand name Evenity) action over time starts at about 34 minutes in, but I suggest also listening to the whole interview.
Excerpt from transcript at about 34:21
" ...look at these are markers of bone turnover look for example at P1NP. This tells you how quickly bone is being formed. Someone on Romosozumab [Evenity] gets a big stimulation of bone formation but it's transient. It stops after about three months. [Romosozumab] also actually reduces bone resorption. CTX is a marker of bone resorption. So [this drug] does exactly what combination therapy does but it does so with one drug. It increases bone density more than Forteo, more than Fosamax, and it decreases the risk of fracture more."
