My husband, 88 yrs, dementia like symptoms.
My husband is started to have episodes lasting sometimes more than an hour where he goes inside himself. He sits there, eyes closed, mumbling & sometimes moving his hands & fingers like he’s typing. He’s not responsive to my voice & I have to shake him & talk loudly to get him to see me. Then he retreats again. I don’t know what to do except to watch him to make sure he’s safe. This is new to me & I have some memory problems myself.

How long has this been happening? What does his doctor say is happening? This must be very frightening to experience.
Time to see a Gerontologist or regular Doc? Bring in the professionals.
My husband does the mumbling, hand fidgeting thing too.
All the best to you.
pati2u, hi, it sounds like a frontal lobe seizure. I wonder if he feel it coming on and finds a place to let it pass. I'd want to see a neurologist without delay. I'm not a medical person and could be completely wrong.
I do love your gentleness.
I agree with seizure. See a neurologist if possible.
