Music Helps Me

Posted by Parus @parus, Oct 13, 2017

At times music can be helpful. I like the group Anthem Lights...A new discovery for me when I was perusing youtube. A Capella has always been my thing. I love to sing!!!!!

Ahhhh! We are back to the many, many different sounds of music. It takes you into different worlds. Soothing, exciting mellow, etc. Bouncing, rocking, exciting, mellow and many more worlds. It is medicine to many. Wonderful, wonderful music. Enjoy!

@peach414144 I have a memory stick that plays in my car. My husband put most of my CDs on it, along with some of his. There is everything from New Age piano to Broadway tunes to Native American flute to country [new and old], and everything in between. I have it on "shuffle" and so enjoy the mixture! Really is good on my long drives.

I would like to introduce a beautiful song from one of my friends who is a singer songwriter and a music therapist. I contacted him a few years ago to ask about music therapy and how it could help me because I was afraid of major surgery. At that time, I had seen a few spine surgeons, and none wanted to help me. It was good to know that I was doing all the right things with music trying to cope with my situation as my pain symptoms were getting worse. What I did was to take measurements of my blood pressure before and after I listened to music that I loved, and I learned to lower it 15 points by doing this along with deep relaxed breathing. My friend told me to use the rhythm and timing of the music to synchronize with my breathing, so I was breathing slow and in time to the music. This was the beginning of how I learned to cope with my anxiety, and I learned to defeat it. I came to Mayo and had the spine surgery that changed my life. Please enjoy this beautiful song and may it bring you hope in these troubled times. Be kind, stay safe, and know that you are not alone.

Hey Matt. How was your day today? It's a rainy/snowy day here. Or it might be snowy if the temperature drops enough. Are you required to stay home? We are except to get some groceries. I'm set up with Zoom for my therapy sessions. It's not as good as being face to face, but I don't have to drive, and I can sit in my comfortable office chair in my study. I've already missed two doctor appointments that I was really looking forward to. So far, no cases of virus in my county. I don't want to be the first one.

Is your brother cutting you some slack? I hope

Jim
