I have been taking Eliquis for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation Recently, I have experienced muscle weakness in my arms and knees. Has anyone experienced this type of issue

I don't think your issue is with apixaban. I have never seen anyone comment about the drug causing muscles weakness, and it doesn't appear in the literature (that I have seen). Statins, though, do cause all sorts of side-effects in people, but with muscle it's usually soreness, not weakness.

I just noticed in an Eliquis commercial a few days ago, at the end of the commercial there is a statement of side effects of muscle weakness to see your doctor. My doctor wants me to try Xarelto, but the information sheet wth the medicine lists muscle weakness as a possible side effect. My problem is I am having pain in both of my shoulders anytime I use them to lift/move objects. When these drug manufactures list muscle weakness, what is their definition of muscle weakness .

They mean you feel a distinct inability, oddly and suddenly, to do what your mind tells your muscles it wants them to do. You might reach up or out okay, but your grip is weak, or you simply cannot lift what you know you should be able to manipulate. Or, you are holding something, say a glass of water, not exactly a 'light' glass, and suddenly your arm can't keep it suspended any longer. Your arm droops, spilling the water, or you lose your grip altogether.

Not pain! You have something else going on. My inexpert opinion, of course.

I have been on Eliquis for 1 year and 3 months for DVT, PEs, and a saddle embolus. I have experienced fatigue and muscle weakness, but I did not associate it with Eliquis. Approximately one month ago, my dose was decreased for maintenance, and I begin to experience severe pain in my hips and legs which impaired my mobility. This occurs every morning when I get up and when I have sat too long. The pain is relieved with Acetaminophen after approximately 30 minutes and I am able to ambulate without any problems. However, I am taking Acetaminophen every 6 hours to combat the pain. I recently had an x-ray done and was told that no problem was seen. These symptoms are not listed as a side effect for Eliquis, but that does not mean it is not a side effect. I am a registered nurse with 43 years of nursing experience, and 34 years was in critical care. I personally feel this needs to be investigated to determine if there is a correlation of these symptoms with Eliquis. It will never be determined a side effect if some research is not done to rule it in or out. I am happy to discover this blog. This blog is connected to the Mayo Clinic, and maybe it will draw attention to the research department so that the issues will be looked at closer. If anyone else has these problems, please blog about it so that it can at least be looked at.

Welcome @sheila64, I have been on Eliquis since having a DVT followed by a POE almost a year and a half ago. I've been on 2.5 mg twice daily for the past year. I have shoulder pain and lower back pain every day mostly in the morning but it's not from the Eliquis. Mine is due to degenerative arthritis. I have a follow up appointment with my Mayo cardiologist in April to see if I have to stay on Eliquis for the rest of my life. Actually I think there is quite a bit of research going on for the drug but I haven't dug too deeply. Here's a search on Google Scholar which is one of my favorites for finding medical research info - https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C24&as_ylo=2025&q=apixaban+causing+pain&btnG=.

Have you tried Google Scholar before? - https://scholar.google.com/

Thanks for the link. I have used Google scholar before, but not for this topic. I had a VTE approximately 10 years ago, and I was told by my pulmonologist and hematologist that I would be on a blood thinner for the rest of my life. I had back surgery due to back issues. I did not have the pain while on Celebrex, but I can't take that anymore. The pain started when my dose was decreased to maintenance. I wonder if I'm not thin enough? Is that the cause of my pain? Thanks for your response.
