Muscle pain due to Statin (Praluent)
I took Praluent a few years ago and had really no issues. However since my knee replacement I started it again due to high cholesterol at 270. After taking a few months of shots my muscle pain got so much worse worse, top of my foot and toes, hips and buttocks, lower back and even the top of my knee hurts. I am stopping it but was reading it can take 100 days to get out of your system and I'm only about 4 weeks out. Anyone else have these issues? I have tried many statins so I was put back on this and now it's giving me issues. thanks for any input. I just want to get back to my normal for me.

Fortunately for me Atorvastatin has worked like a charm for more than 30 years.
I am just glad you found something that works for you.
It is amazing how each of us reacts to different medications.
Apparently you must be taking Atorvastatin as well.
It is always nice to get a hug.
Enjoy your weekend.
Is that in addition to the Atorvastatin?
Yes.
I have heard and read that too! Apparently our brains are the most cholesterol rich organ in the body.
I wish we had more information and studies done on this issue especially when so many people are taking them...in the millions just in the US.

I found this fascinating.
I also had severe muscle pain due to statins. I took the OneOme test, https://oneome.com/ and learned that I carry the SCL 101B gene and it is associated with statin induced muscle pain and myalgias. Your Dr. can order the test. Mayo was one of the early partners. I not only learned about statins, but also about many other medications that I can't tolerate. It has been invaluable for my medical team and helps us select medicines that help my autoimmune conditions, and avoid adverse side effects. Wishing you success with your medication and wellness journey.
Is this testing covered by insurance/medicare?
I’m not sure, but here’s what is posted online:
The cost of the OneOme RightMed Test varies depending on whether you pay for it out of pocket or submit it to your insurance provider.
Out of pocket: The cost is $349.
With insurance: The cost varies based on your insurance plan.
Financial assistance: Eligible patients may pay a maximum of $199.
Good luck!
