Anyone have muscle pain due to statin (Praluent)?

Posted by cindymattern @cindymattern, Dec 24, 2024

I took Praluent a few years ago and had really no issues. However since my knee replacement I started it again due to high cholesterol at 270. After taking a few months of shots my muscle pain got so much worse worse, top of my foot and toes, hips and buttocks, lower back and even the top of my knee hurts. I am stopping it but was reading it can take 100 days to get out of your system and I'm only about 4 weeks out. Anyone else have these issues? I have tried many statins so I was put back on this and now it's giving me issues. thanks for any input. I just want to get back to my normal for me.

@sue417 Thanks, I take 40mg of generic Crestor(rosuvastatin) since a heart attack in 2015. I switched from atorvastatin a year ago upon the docs recommendation. At first it helped but then the inflammation came back. I did reduce the crestor to 20mg every other day which helped and my numbers increased. Just trying to find something to help me quit complaining about achy legs. ŁOL.

Hi, I can’t tolerate any of the statins, unfortunately; however, my sharpe NP put me on Nexletol. The chemical name is bempedoic acid, a nonstatin, which drop my cholesterol 50 points! After a year the crazy pains started and I am off the Nexletol. I’m sending this info hoping it may be the Rx that helps the next person.

@mimidrc I too have tried all the statins (mandated by insurance) and feel like a guinea pig without success, as the one that worked the best left me with permanent residual pins/needles/pain and neuropathy (rosuvastatin) Nexletol cost me a mint out of pocket yet didn't even bring it down enough and now they have me on Praulent but my feet are a mess with spasms and achy cramping...I'm an athlete with osteoporosis to boot so am very afraid all this experimenting will cause me to fall if it cramps up at the wrong time. sigh. This forum is very helpful to hear what folks have tried tho!

@mimidrc I have recently started Nexlivet which is a combination of bemopedoic acid and ezetimide. My cardiologist had to appeal an initial denial of the drug.

Oh my word!! I’m so sorry to hear of your struggles and what appears to be permanent damage. It breaks my heart to think of medicines meant to help can cause such problems. I am one of those that doesn’t believe in one size fits all for Rx meds. I believe there are enough of us out there who suffer bad symptoms to warrant more research for Rx compatibility. Currently, I’m looking for a company who can genetically test me for intolerance or sensitivity.
I wish you and all well

Hi, I was on Ezetimibe a few yrs back when the pains and all sorts of terrible “inability to tolerate” symptoms started. Hoping you and all of us have great health changing success.

I have been on statins for about a year now. My cardiologist recommeded COQ10 which I take the liquid everyday. I bought some capulars to take when I am traveling this fall. So far no issues but I have heard of several people who were very sick from the statins . I know as we age our bodies can't handle the stuff they used to. mind cannot. I cannot take any aspirin products anymore or anti-depressants. They cause great pain in my digestive tract or I can't get out of bed for days. It is what it is. Blessings and good luck. I try to eat salmon a coupld of times per week which I like and always order it when we go out to eat. I think it makes a big difference.
