Mixing medications: lacosamide (Vimpat) and lamotrigine (Lamictal)

Hi,
I just finished a week long in hospital EEG it was called EMU.
After attempting multiple seizures wasn’t able to have more than one focal.
Before I came into the hospital I was on 3000mg of Keppra XR and 500mg of Lamectal ER.
The side effects of Keppra was on a whole other level. Anyways fast forward at the end of this week I was started on 200mg Vimpat and kept on Lamectal. They did overnight test and it showed that my waves were pretty much gone on the Vinpat and Lamectal.

I’m now extremely nervous of the side effects even thought it’s only been 2 days.
Mainly because I’ve been reading what others have said.
Is anyone else on Vimpat and Lamectal and what were your side effects?
I know everyone is different but again I’m just scared.
Also I have struggled for years with vertigo and dizziness as well.

I would suggest checking with your physician and pharmacist as to when best to take them. I was taking seizure medication but was forgetting my evening dose so my Neurologist agreed I could take all medication in the morning. It also depends on how these drugs affect you. My primary still wants me to take a cholesterol medicine at night but I think it's best to take it regularly than missing doses so I take it in the morning.
Gabapentin is probably the least potent of seizure meds although it does make many users sleepy.
They could increase side effects if taken together but your dose of each is minimal. Personally, I’d take them when I wanted unless I was having bothersome side effects but call your doctor/pharmacist!
Take care,
Jake

I take my cholesterol in the mid morning, no problem..I already checked with the Dr about taking my meds together he said alright, but the pharmacist said not to take my xanax at the same time..I'm taking gabapentin for my back pain...

You raise a great question and like has already been said I trust my neurologist, but my pharmacist sometimes a close second. I have been overly medicated more times than I'd like to admit so it is a very delicate balance. I've rarely heard of a doctor cutting out or reducing dosages (except at Mayo). I have anxiety which everyone feels is fueling my FND seizures so they work hard to keep anxiety in check. My PCP said my anxiety is almost more important than my seizures (except for hitting my head). He said anxiety can lead to many more issues. He told me it all gets down to a risk - benefit scenario and at my age of 61 he said he's more concerned about my heart than he is anything else.
