I've had MGUS for over 20 years. My serum protein elevated to 9. I'm extremely tired, weak and feel awful. I've had both knees replaced, 2 fusions in my neck, lower back hernia, right shoulder surgery. I'm scheduled for hip replacement surgery on both hips in January '24. I'm 72 years old. My skin is terribly dry. Fingernails have ridges. My hearing is going bad.

I have MGUS and fatty liver disease and obesity and I have pain all the time. Doctor says it's not from MGUS but deep down I feel it is. But my levels are high all the time and dr says that there okay but it scares me alot because 1 cancer runs in my family. I have alot of back problems my posture is bad my lower back hurts all the time and shoulders close to my neck hurt alot and it burns. And I was told by a different dr that I have Fibromyalgia but I don't know or think it's that I think and feel like it's MGUS . IM SENDING PRAYERS FOR EVERYONE AND HOPE EVERYONE GETS TO FEELING BETTER

Hi Sheryl
Some recent research has shown that insulin resistance seems to be the cause of (Fibro) pain. This explains a lot for me. I have MGUS, fatty liver, and obesity, and insulin resistance with varying pain episodes. I’m currently having great success with tweaking my diet with ZOE and some the Gluecose Goddess dietary hacks.

Wishing the best

@teedlum thanks for posting that. I hope that the results can be replicated. There is so much to learn about chronic pain.

You all are very welcome! Even though the 1 study shows half of the participants got rid of their pain that’s pretty telling. I’ve lost 14 lbs since February following Glucose Goddess the method and ZOE out of the United Kingdom program. I signed up for four months! The dietary changes are based on my biology. So I scored poor on my blood sugar score, above average blood fat tolerability, and very poor on good gut bugs and high on bad gut bugs. So they send lessons everyday. Foods info and recipes are posted to help you! The kit comes with everything for glucose test CGM monitor, lipids test from blood draw in your own home, and microbiome stool sample kit. The last two are mailed with postage paid boxes to 2 labs here in the United States. I can’t say enough good about it! Their scientists are amazing. They are now partnering with some United States medical partners. My life is changing! Can’t wait see my labs!

Hi Sheryl. My hematologist also says MGUS doesn’t cause pain, so I think it’s likely the pain is from something else. The insulin resistance theory is interesting because being overweight and having a fatty liver are both associated with insulin resistance/diabetes. I would make sure you are being monitored for that with HbA1c levels in serum periodically. There is also a higher incidence of MGUS in patients with autoimmune diseases which certainly can cause joint pain. Many women with autoimmune diseases are told they have fibromyalgia, sometimes even without being tested for autoimmune disease. I would ask to be tested for AI disease and see a rheumatologist for that if anything shows up that’s abnormal. I have MGUS, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. The last 2 cause significant joint pain. In the meantime if you’re able to take naproxen or ibuprofen, either might give you some relief but that’s only treating the symptoms not the cause. I do hope your Dr will look into the AI disease and insulin resistance possibilities and you get some answers and relief. Weight loss would help the joints, liver, insulin resistance and make you healthier in general. I know it’s easier said than done but very important to do. Good luck. Sending healing thoughts your way!
