Melanoma in my right eye

Posted by melanoma1 @melanoma1, Apr 22 9:17pm

How can I get any kind of assistance on getting my eye issue resolved.

@melanoma1 I'm glad you found Mayo Clinic Connect as a source of information and support, and in turn to share your experiences - which I'd like to hear more about. I gather you have been diagnosed with ocular melanoma which is the most common type of eye cancer to affect adults and, unlike skin melanomas, is more unlikely to be caused by ultraviolet light (or sun) exposure.

Here is some additional information about the condition:
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/eye-melanoma/symptoms-causes/syc-20372371
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/eye-melanoma/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20372376
Prompt treatment is highly recommended by specialists that can include ophthalmologists who specialize in eye tumors - called ocular oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and retina specialists/surgeons.

Can you tell me more about the specific type of assistance that's been obtained to date and what you're looking for now?

@melanoma1, if you would like to seek a consult with Mayo Clinic specialists, you can submit a request here: https://mayocl.in/1mtmR63

Has a diagnosis of eye melanoma been confirmed? How are you doing?

I have uveal melanoma of the right eye. I had brachytherapy with Dr. Lauren Dalvin at Mayo Rochester almost two years ago. I see Dr. Basel Williams of Bascom Palmer each month for a shot and testing in FL in the winter. Both doctors are the best! I will continue my monthly shot at the Retina Consultants of MN during the summer months. They have been excellent in coordinating my appointments.
My eye cancer was discovered while I was being treated for lymphoma at Mayo Rochester.
Just to let you know life goes on and all is well…I thank God for each new day.

@pamela76: thank you for sharing your encouraging news and treatment! May I ask if the shot you're receiving is Avastin? If not, what is it and is it uncomfortable?

My shot is Eylea. It’s a little sore for about 24 hours but the injection itself is not painful and is quick.

@grammato3
I went online and compared the two shots….avastin seems to be cheaper but sometimes needs to be given more often. The here is also I believe a generic version of Eylea…pavblu.
