Medication for acid reflux/GERD
I’ve been struggling with acid reflux/GERD for a few years and my doctor has just suggested I take a PPI proton pump inhibitor (such as pantoprazole). He was previously reluctant agree to this, despite recommendation by the gastroenterologist I saw.
I’m sure there have been discussions here related to taking PPI’s with bronchiectasis and Mac but wonder what others have experienced related to this?

I am so sorry to hear about your food troubles. I have been gluten and lactose intolerant for a long time. I eat rice crackers with cashew butter for my fat and carb and protein. I can eat Organic oven roasted turkey breast in packages from Trader Joes. I also eat their frozen turkey burgers. For breakfast I eat Nature's Path Homestyle Oatmeal with walnuts, cashew butter, walnut milk, blueberries. Blueberries and bananas are the only fruit I really eat. It's a boring menu, but it keeps me going. Sometimes I eat hard boiled eggs and sometimes I do eggs prepared other ways. I sometimes have rice puffs with hard boiled smashed up egg and blueberries and walnuts. I have a lot of nuts and nut butter in my diet. I hope this has been helpful.
I had most of my colon removed 13 years ago. I still get bloated after every meal. When I go with my family for pizza, I get the crust with sauce and black olives.
And, of course, I eat a lot of plain chicken. Sprouts has an ok roasted chicken with no seasoning.
Good luck. Roz

2 ReactionsIn my picture with the yellow jacket, I'm eating Pho which seems to agree with me, and tastes really good.
I have been diagnosed with silent reflux which is problematic with my Bronchiectasis. I take omeprazole twice a day, use a wedge pillow and one of the therapists at NJH recommended I take Reflux Gourmet at night before bed.
What is the brand name of the wedge pillow?
Hello @kathyhg and Members,
I too have something going on with my Gastro Systems and I think indeed it may be GERD. My Pulmo suggested Pantoprazole as well 90 days ago and the chronic cough continues.
My primary, who I just saw for the "chronic cough" due to aspirating food particles which is then followed by violent coughing 50% of the time. To be clear, the chronic cough is definitely caused by BE and NTM, however it is now believed on top of GERD, I may have allergies. Not being treated with any meds except for Trelegy, Abuterol Nebbing solution before 3% Saline and Flonase Generic. The Primary at Weill Cornell Payson Center for the Aged, suggested Famotidine for the GERD for me and better for me than the other med and this will be my 2nd day on this med.
Will report in if there is any change.

1 Reactionfrankie160, Bless you. This has been one of the hardest summers with allergies & asthma. I kept clearing my throat and did my research. Asthma & allergies exacerbates
Acid Reflux. Who knew? I am on a Albuterol Nebulizer daily and sinus irrigation and Albuterol rescue inhaler.
The humidity, all the rain and whatever allergens have enlarged outside due to the humidity
have made for a hard summer. I cannot be outside over 5 minutes or I tighten
up with asthma.
I see you are on Albuterol so I assume you have asthma. Perhaps the asthma and reflux
are working against each other as mine are. Just a thought.
I am on Protonix (Pantoprazole) 20 mg and Pepcid AC 20 mg at night for back up reflux. I
have been on Protonix 40 mg before and may have to increase it if the doctor orders.
Praying for you to get better. I empathize. Blessings....
I bought the Givanlee extra wide bamboo wedge pillow through Amazon. It is only 5" high, but with my pillow about 7" total. That works best for me as a side sleeper. It took a while to be delivered, which was annoying (about 3 weeks), but has been worth it in the long run.
