Medication following Evenity- Reclast vs Prolia?

Posted by daph @daph, Jan 21 4:41pm

I have been getting Evenity injections for 8 months and am evaluating a transition to Reclast or Prolia. I am early 50s and have had no issues with Evenity. Can people share their experiences with either? Has anyone done Reclast and then prolia post evenity OR Prolia and then Reclast post Evenity or have people just chosen one path or another?

Has anyone considered Actonel after Evenity rather than Reclast or Prolia? I’m interested to hear opinions on that medicine.

Yes, Dr. McCormick told me Actonel would be a good choice if Reclast is not tolerated. And one of the mentors on here did it, I believe. One doc told me it might work for me if I can't do Reclast, that it might be gentler for a person with GERD. I was told not to do Boniva.

@windyshores- Thanks and GOOD LUCK! Will be waiting to hear . I, too, am at a critical place in my plan, though not as critical as yours. Picking up my CTX and P1NP lab results today , have a time to speak with McCormick on Monday , and then I think I'm off to the races with Forteo after the authorization and insurance issues get ironed out.

Windy please keep us informed of your numbers . My CTX went from 933 to 316 and P1NP 77 to 67 after 6 months of Evenity .

I saw Actonel on the chart in Dr. McCormick’s book, but there doesn’t seem to be much info about it. Book says it was approved in 1998
Which seems like a long time ago.
I am curious about it in case I have trouble with Reclast.
My GERD is bad and I am on Protonix for that. Protonix is bad for bones - I asked gastroenterologist to put me on something else and he did not - he lowered dosage from 40mg to 20mg.

@susanfalcon52 I transitioned from Prilosec to Pepcid or Zantac and then tapered, I now take Pepcid only as needed and Tums. Our bodies adapt to the meds like Protonix and actually make us worse off when we stop so we have to taper and transition. It is a PIA and takes time. Maybe you are not able to but just sharing my experience. I don't eat after 5!

I haven't heard of it.

It’s very dated and barely touches on any natural treatments.

My doctor suggested Forteo following Evenity. I had taken 8 months of Forteo and felt great, but my alkaline phosphatase levels rose so she had me stop. I just had my 8th injection of Evenity and have had increasing back pain. Presently I am taking meloxicam for inflammation and pain with mixed results. Has anyone heard of taking Forteo after Evenity?

I have read that Evenity is okay after Forteo but not the other way around....because Evenity is so strong that there is nothing left for Forteo to do. But if you have done only 8 Evenity's maybe the Forteo will do something. And maybe they just don't know yet...it seems there are no studies or date yet. My doc didn't even want me to do Evenity after Tymlos (similar to Forteo)! I guess you will be a trailblazer! What does your doc say?

Actually I was going to try to finish the evenity. She says it would be fine, but you’re right, it’s such a new medicine. I’m going to keep researching. And this point may be moot if in my next blood panel my alkaline phosphatase is still high.
