Medication following Evenity- Reclast vs Prolia?

Posted by daph @daph, Jan 21 4:41pm

I have been getting Evenity injections for 8 months and am evaluating a transition to Reclast or Prolia. I am early 50s and have had no issues with Evenity. Can people share their experiences with either? Has anyone done Reclast and then prolia post evenity OR Prolia and then Reclast post Evenity or have people just chosen one path or another?

If you do Prolia, then eventually you will need to do Reclast because getting off Prolia means a drop in bone density and increase in fracture risk. Reclast on the other hand stays in the system a long time and is used to "lock in" gains from all the osteoporosis meds.

i had just minor side effects like headache fatigue soreness at sites. Finished 12 months November 2023 with 13.8% spine and 5.5% hip and just finished 12 weeks of alendronate without problem. Plan a CTX and P1NP in a few weeks and then I am going to consult with Dr McCormick. I dont want to stay on alendronate longer than necessary and chance dental issues. Interested in his opinion, certainly dont want to lose what I gained but still in the osteoporosis range Spine -3.3 to -2.5 and hip -3.0 to -2.7. Using a weighted vest for walking/exercise as well as weight training. Fingers crossed but next DXA not til October 2024

I,too, have had 8 months of Evenity. No side effects other than fatigue the first time.
I plan to ho on Reclast after Evenity. Scary, but I can’t take the oral meds.
My friend is on Reclast with no side effects, so that makes me feel a little better.

Did you take anything prior to evenity?

alendronate for 6 months but didn't work. I'm also on hydrochlorothiazide now because I lose calcium in my urine

Have you done Prolia after? I know you can't just stop it without meds.. was looking for feedback on anyone who has done Prolia or Reclast after (or both one after another)

I had five months of Tymlos before Evenity. Then there was a period of a few months when I wasn’t taking anything.
This was poorly planned- mostly by me - but also due to events.

I'm trying to make that same decision and finding little data on the Evenity to Reclast route, except that it can be done. Much more data on transitioning to Prolia. So I'm not sure but leaning to Reclast because of the reports on bad effects if you stop Prolia without another back-up drug. Let me know if you find out anything. Thanks!
