Measurement difference of dilated aorta between Echo and CT scan
Back in July the CT scan reveals an ascending aorta of 4.6/4.7. In December it shows 4.3/4.4.
In January of this year an echo shows 4.7
Doctor said will go with July and recent echo as benchmark since December could be wrong calculation
Any thoughts???

I've read a lot about the variations in measurements between scans being due to imaging modality and different techniques used by different technicians. It's frustrating when you are monitoring specifically for growth though isn't it? My thoughts are that I would want to go with the same as what your doctor suggests because A.) the 4.7 cm has measurement has been noted twice over two different types of imaging. B.) the 4.3 cm measurement though it sounds great, is just a one off at this point unless you get repeated imaging over time reflecting this smaller measurement. However some positives are.. 1) at least your scans show stability and no growth. 2.) I've read that it is possible for some shrinkage over time especially if you have excessive weight to begin with and then lose weight. It is possible to shrink. Something to be hopeful for and something we can actively do something about is losing weight (if needed), controlling blood pressure, lowering cholesterol (if needed). Mainly, just continue with your monitoring as recommended by your doctor and do your best to control stress and manage risk factors and lifestyle changes is still the best and appropriate action for this condition at the size you are currently. Wishing you good health.
Agree with you. We both will go with 4.7 since no previous records before that due and no one knows for how long it was at that size. Positively it didn’t grow for the last six months. During that period lost around 13th, cholesterol level below normal value and hopefully it will be controlled at one point. Will repeat echo in six months even the doctor ask to do it in one year. I want to establish more tracking record to see how it develops. I guess the 4.3 was a mistake in measurement
