Treating Osteoporosis while also dealing with Lymphoma

Posted by reneemp @reneemp, Feb 15, 2022

Hello,
I am in the process of deciding my next osteoporosis drug. I was on fosemax for five years which kept my dex scores stable (-3.7). I was recently diagnosed with splenic marginal zone lymphoma and have been unable to find anything about the side effects of Evenity, Forteo, Tymlos with folks with cancer. Since lymphoma is in my blood and bone marrow I am concerned about the bone cancer side effect. I am also concerned about added fatigue and joint pain.

All advice, experience or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Have you discussed the osteoporosis medications with your oncologist?

Thanks for the other discussions. I did share the drug options with my oncologist yet they were unfamiliar with the drugs so had no input.

Having follicular lymphoma and treated for it and now osteoporosis and advised on drugs to take and after reviewing the side effects chose to not take them. I had chemo for 2 years back in 2011 and now have been on a natural treatment for the osteo. I will get a bone scan in September as will be 2 years since last scan. I am 78 year old female and docs say I am healthy. Makes me smile as lot of days don't feel so healthy. Daily determination gets me through the days.

If I had an answer I would certainly share it. I was diagnosed with Folicullar Lymphoma (advanced) in 05. Year and half ago full blown osteoporosis and I chose to not use the drugs as did not care for the possible side effects. I chose a natural way to treat it and take AlgaeCal and Stronium each day and will get another bone density test in September to see how it is working. I live with aches and pain and am more careful with what I do but other than that just continue on. I take vitamins and other calcium benefits to try and slow this down. I hope you find some answers and share them. I'm a 78 year old female so consider myself fortunate that I made it this far. Best of luck to you.

Hi @gwendlyn I’m at a little loss for what to say here but I’d sure like to help you find some answers. Do you have breast cancer? Are you experiencing pain in your breast or you have a fever?
Could you give me a little more information about yourself?
