LVOT Gradient Increase
Hi all - I am a 74 year old female who was diagnosed with HOCM a year ago - at Johns Hopkins which is a COE. My cardiologist put me on jardiance and verapamil which has been wonderful - no side effects and a great decrease in breathlessness. I am only breathless after meals. However, a recent echo shows that my LVOT has increased from 18 to 83 at rest. Probably this is a lot. I haven't talked to my cardiologist a Hopkins yet but will next week. Meanwhile, can anyone tell me anything about what this high gradient typically means regarding treatment? Thanks!

My LVOT increased with my last echo. My provider corresponded with me so I think perhaps you should contact your cardiologist and ask why.
My dr. thought it could have been caused by a recent surgery. So we shall see with my next echo.
I have had no notable symptoms that might indicate that the obstruction had increased.

2 ReactionsHas your hypertrophic cardiomyopathy become obstructive? And if so, are you taking Camzyos?
Mine has and I started camzyos about a month ago. Gradient down from 53 to 9.
@jmr091805 yes - I have HOCM but since the LVOT was 18 at the last echo my cardiologist did not put me on Camzyos (yet?). This steep increase is odd since I am not having additional symptoms. I have sent him an email and I am sure he will respond today or Monday. Just looking for input and education from the Mayo community. Thanks!
