Pain medication changes due to regulations
I’ve been told twice now by my current doctor that they have to lower my pain medication because they’re being forced to by the government. I myself have lowered my medication twice to cut it in half. I’ve been on this medication for 26 years. I’ve tried to lower it again, but life as you know it changes so quick that I was not able to take care of myself. Now I’m in this position where they will have to lower it. I’m just wondering if anybody else out there has been told the same . Thanks for any input you may have.

@cmedina1 Thanks for info about spinal cord stimulator. That might be my only option,but I am also hearing to many negatives . I totally understand how difficult this. I have heard that reducing opioids like oxycodone to 20 mg per day can change the sensitivity of your brain to pain and lower pain. I a slowly trying this. It might be helping.
@laughlin1947 I have done that procedure, as well as every other available procedure .There is nothing left available that I can consider.

How does the radio frequencies work

2 Reactions@reemylove nnThere are a series of injections involved. First of all, alongside the spine, patients typically get initial injections (and get modest pain relief from two "medial branch block", injections) that help identify which nerves are the source of pain. Those medial branch block injections may reduce the pain a little bit, but the primary purpose of those is to identify which nerves cause the back pain. This takes 2 office visits for the medial branch block injections. So, once the responsible nerves are identified, the radio frequency injections are done within one office visit. The doctor is able to go to the identified nerve endings, then heat up (cauterize) those nerve endings (heat the outer nerve sheaths), and the procedure is over. The cauterized nerve endings block the pain signals going to the brain. You may search the Mayo blog and see what else people say about the RFA. The effect lasts several months, and there is at least one report, with successive RFA treatments, the extent of time they are effective gets longer and longer.

I take hydrocodone 10mg for my pain from yhe effects of shingles
I take e every 6 hours or as needed
But i hate them
@reemylove I have a very badly damaged spine with two sets of vertebrae being bone on bone and every other set of vertebrae with bulging disks. Very slight scoliosis, around 23%. This treatment is heaven sent, otherwise I was in terrible pain all the time, and loaded up on a regular basis with OTC pain relievers.
@reemylove hydrocodone is not as strong as oxycodone. My doctor would not refuse to give it for chronic pain. Is that your concern. Are you having side effects
@shoegal
I'm so sorry, that seems beyond frustrating. And then if we see another Doctor, we are accused of Doctor shopping, which is so trying.
I have to see my Doc every three months, to control my medication, jumping through the hoops, and I'm grateful that he works with me to see my pain controlled.

2 ReactionsWell - its Medicare (which I guess is the government!). It is possibly the medicine. if you can switch? However, all your doc needs to do is write a PRIOR AUTH that it is medically necessary. I use Percocet/Oxy for 25 years. I am super stable. Then the lactose got me so I switched to Roxycodone liquid. There is a limit! Instead of two bottles, I can only get one bottle and 7/8 of a second bottle within 30 days. Its really stupid. But before I put my doctor through a headache she doesn't want, I tried and it worked. No other drug works for me and keeps my pain controlled and keeps me stable. The CDC STILL recommends Percocet for long-term chronic pain. I like it best for lack of drug interactions and side effects! I am sorry we have to be humiliated in the process! cmedina1 @cmedina1
