@wandaonine, I'm sorry to hear you are having a hard time with the medications after your new stent. In the first discussion you started on this topic you mentioned that every time you take the medication for 3 days your blood pressure drops to 90/63 and you get dizzy, have nausea, sleepy and have chest pains.
Have you discussed the symptoms that occur after you take the medications with your doctor to see if there are alternative medications that might not have the side effects?
I have spoke to my Cardiologist and he wants me to keep trying with the medication. The doctor in the ER took me off Lipitor. My Cardo doctor does not listen to me. Me GP doctor says the regimen the Cardio Doctor is prescribing are the standard regimen after a heart attack and stent placement.
What I’m looking for is someone who has a suggestion of medication that their taking so I can ask my doctor to look at another set of medications.
I’ve read tons of literature on the internet and it seems most Drugs lower the blood pressure.
I can’t be the only person with Low Blood Pressure and a Stent.
Thank you for your response
@wandaonine
You are most likely feeling the effects of Metropolol. It’s one of drugs called beta blockers.
They relax the blood vessels, improves how the heart works and lowers blood pressure.
My husband recently had similar problems. He had been on Metropolol for years and tolerated it well. Now he has a pacemaker which changed how the heart worked.
It’s not a good idea to just stop taking it. Ask your cardiologist about the dosage- maybe it can be changed or switched to something different.
Thank you
They have lowered my dose to 1.25 mg in the morning.
Within an hour my blood pressure is starting to drop
I feel crappy then after 4 hours I start feeling normal.
Hello. I ran across your comment online as I was researching low blood pressures after stent and using metoprolol. I would love to hear any update and if your symptoms resolved or you had any medication adjustments. Take care
Having the same issue my cardiologist seems to read from a book of what to prescribe and my general practitioner reads directly from the internet literally. Was give 3 blood pressure meds linsionpril, nebivolol and isosorbide. Blood pressure lowest was 81/60. Finally i asked the office how low do you want it. Apparently 90/60 is fine they are only concerned below 90. Funny AI says im over prescribe. Todays doctor's just follow the script
Sorry took me so long to reply
I’m currently of Repatha
I give myself a injection every 14 days I feel better but Ejaction Fracture has not improved I’m still at 30%
But my blood pressure is so much better
I had to fight with my Cardiologist to pay attention to me and listen to me
I was hospitalized 3 times for low blood pressure
It took months
I’m currently on
Repatha injections
Losartan
Spirinolactone
Metoprolol 1/2 25%
Ezetimibe 10mg
Jardiance 10mg in am
(For water retention around the heart causing pressure)
I normally have low blood pressure so getting 3 Stents recently has caused me some issues living in AZ. The Hot Weather really has caused my blood pressure to drop fast and I am very tired. I had AFIB in 2020 and had an Ablation Surgery at Mayo Clinic and everything was fine until May 2024 and had a mild Stroke and the AFIB returned from it. Then had a Cardio Version and my AFIB is gone again but I take Multaq, which helps my Heart stay in Normal Rhythm. Anyone else that has Stents, normally low blood pressure and takes Multaq having problems with their Blood Pressure getting too low?
I have only lived in AZ. 3 years and really do not like it, and especially the none stop HOT WEATHER. I stay home now like a Hermit but still have to go out of the house for some necessities. I stay in AZ. because of the excellent medical care I receive at Mayo Clinic.
@wandaonine, I am reading through this conversation starting with your initial post. You have gone through a lot since, and it is encouraging to hear your blood pressure is at a good place now.
I am interested to hear how you got to this point. It sounds like you’ve hung in there and have been working with your cardiologist, but that it’s been rough. Also, you mentioned two years ago lowering Metoprolol to 1.25 mg after getting your stent. I can’t tell if the 1/2 25% you currently take means it has been adjusted.
Do you mind sharing more about how you were able to get your cardiologist to pay attention to you?
