Long term side effects of Aimovig?

Posted by shivaamedeo @shivaamedeo, Mar 10, 2025

Hi,
I have been on Aimovig shots for 2 years , it really helped my migraine. But 4 months ago I started having these episodes which last few days , with shortness of breath, tingling in my face , tension feelings in head , fatigue and they did all kind of tests and everything is normal. I was wondering if it could be side effects of Aimovig.

I have just come across these comments as I was searching for long term effects of Aimovig.

I started Aimovig in September 2021. It was a game changer for me as I went from 9 days a month to zero most months.

I can’t answer about the tingling or numbness as I was diagnosed with Reynaud’s decades ago. It hasn’t worsened since taking the Aimovig.

The reason I was looking on the internet is that over the last month/6 weeks I have had several visual migraines - I am getting the aura and losing vision without any headaches. As the most recent was yesterday I was wondering whether I should make an appointment to see my neurologist. After reading these posts I feel I should pursue it so thank you for being there.
Regards
Liz

@ead63 - welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Glad you came across these posts on Mayo Clinic Connect. Glad that you found the erenumab-aooe (Aimovig) to be a game changer for you.

Here is some Mayo Clinic information on that medication:

- Erenumab-aooe (subcutaneous route) https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/erenumab-aooe-subcutaneous-route/description/drg-20443746

You mentioned experiencing visual migraines in the last 4-6 weeks. What types of symptoms did you experience previously with your migraines?

I had terrible experience with Aimovig, got every side effect listed at bottom of European clinical trials. Infections everywhere, so much fatigue, I didn’t realize it was Aimovig making me sicker until administrator of private Facebook group told me. I landed in Cedars ICU 5 weeks. Must have angels watching over me because 10 of Cedars finest said I was an hour from checking out.

@erickthompson - Hi. I wanted to let you know I moved your post here so that you could return to this existing discussion on erenumab-aooe (Aimovig) where you'd been chatting before:

Also tagging members such as @hedjhog @msb18 @covidstinks2023 @mojo244 @jrsjc @tbgreif625 @annew21 @d1swimmer to join in and speak to whether they have had any cognitive or other issues with this medication.

Erick, what does your neurologist propose you do at this point with the medication and the cognitive issues you've noted?

Hello, I have been using Aimovig for @ 3-4 yrs. now and have not had any of the side effects that you are experiencing; mostly good results; less migraines, but I still get them even when I think I am following all my warning signs, no chocolate, red wine, etc.
Now researching B2 and migraines; some think this seems to help ?

@lisalucier Apologies for the delay in replying but work has been full on recently.
Prior to the Aimovig I spent an average of 9 full days a month in bed with brain splitting headache, aura, light sensitivity and nausea and sickness. It was totally debilitating. Which is why the Aimovig was a game changer for me and worth every penny I spent on it
